Hey all,
i am just after some general opinions. But i was wondering of anyone here has had experience with using 8" woofers for midbass? I am thinking of putting one or two in the ski hole to get some really nice midbass happening. What would this do the the SQ?

Hmmm bad idea. 8inch woofers can be used for midbass no problems, some companies even make 7 and 8 inch midbass woofers JL etc... however placing the woofers in the ski hole would destroy any good sound stage that you are trying to build. Are you going to use them as midbass or as woofers?

When i refer to sound stage the basic principle is easy.... quality front speakers running off an amp and a sub. The only time you need rear fill is if you have people sitting in the back all the time or if you want surround sound.

Most people when setting up their sound stage will incoporate splits or component speakers to give them more flexability. This is because the tweeter can be mounted separate to the woofer to make the sound seem like it is "projecting" toward you. However the tweeter can not be mounted to far away from the woofer as frequency response can be compremised.

Some higher quality 3 way splits use larger 7 and 8 inch woofers and 3-5 inch mids bass and 1-3inch tweeters. If you want a great sounding system SQ wise just get some quality 6 inch splits for the front ( Boston FS-60 RRP$350 or so if you are on a budget ) mount the woofers in the doors and tweeters a little higher up. If you are after SQ, a 4 channel amp would be the way to go and not use the external crossovers provided as the larger 4 channel amp will give you more control. Ch 1 and 2 for the tweeters and Ch 3 and 4 for the mids. Since you have a magna, they have 6x9's in the rear so any good sounding 3 or 4 way 6x9 will do the job. Run them off the deck as they are not that important. With the addition of something like a JL sub ( 8-12inch at the most )you will have a sweet sounding system that can play loud.

Nup, No good!! Don't waste time, I spent whole weekend once designing a setup using two 8inch subs and other bits and pieces. You cant get enough power into them before they destort and sound crap. when you do get the right amount of power into them you cant hear them. I'd stick to something a little bigger

Just to clarify i have a really good front stage. i have some jonah lomus with 150wrms going into them, i also have 2 12" in the boot. I just have no rear fill at the moment and i was wondering what i should use. I have been told to get some decent splits for the parcel shelf, but i am just after ideas.

Dude rear fill is not that important, if you have the TF with holes for 6x9's just put in 3 or 4 way 6x9's and run them off the deck. In a magna their is really no piont in having splits in the rear, would just be a waste of money and time. When i had my TE i had a similar set up but with only 1 sub and it sounded sweet and now with my TJ all i have is fusions front and sony 6x9's rear and it sounds good for being underpowered.

Be very careful doing this!!!

Check what frequecy the crossover is using for the tweeters. The high pass filters on most amps may not filter out enough of the lower frequecies....which may cause them to get too much power!
