yup - its ugly as
i've seen it on a couple of other car makes too... maybe they are supplied with the same wiper components
only thing i can think of is whip em off, sand em back and possibly get em powdercoated - that should do the trick (but thats taking it to an extreme)

eRRR... I think he's referring to the arms not the blades. Arms are more than $10 I'm sure.

It turns white (corrosion). I guess going to either get it resprayed or something. Though this is not an important component compared to others.
mine arent rusting on my current car,
but the old elante did, so i painted them red and got some red silicone wiper blades :D
(yes car was red)

One of mine is corroded on the corner, not on the actual wiper arm, but the base arm that is connected to the drive. At this stage I'm not going to bother to do anything about it, but when I get a chance I'll probably try and grab a spare from the wreckers.
I don't think I could spend wasting my time sanding it down and repainting it. And I absolutely am not replacing (or painting) it with a different colour, personal opinion I think it looks tacky.

im saying that as its painted...and so is your car.....you polish and wax your car to protect it....but do you polish and wax the wiper arm???? noooooo....thats why it fades and looks crap.......cause no one thinks of spending 40 seconds to wipe over some polish and wax.
i know it sounds  but it does work

I was also refering to the actual control arm, not the wiper blade mount section. Sorry for any confusion

oooooooooooooooooooooooooo..............WELL.....I N THAT CASE......off to the wreckers you go!!!!
for some reason (ive only polished them once OK!) my arms havent done anything :doubt: ....they looked faded once but JIF prooved that wrong.....so mine are like new.....but we get some ppl come to work, who want me to see if something-or-other fits on there car, and there windscreen wiper arms or whatever are held together by there own rust!
really werid, i guess its where you keep the car etc etc etc
sanding them down wont take THAT LONG.
if you cbf going wreckers, hell yeah, take them off, get an electric sander out, and go nuts!

Its the pin being a different metal to the arm that does it. It is like a annode on a boat. They will corrode, my old one did I'm sure the new one will.

WIPER ARMS: LH $31.80 (MR908436) RH $34.10 (MR908437) - these are 3rd gen parts prices including GST. At these prices its hardly worth the bother renovating them just get some new ones!

yeh mine have corroded abit, but i spray painted them black again and that fixed them right up :). Though they are starting to fade abit agian :(.
When i used to get the VRX serviced I had the option of replacing the control arm aswell as the wiperblades as part of the service.
Same with my Ford, i just took it in for a 15,000km service and had the blades and arms replaced ($40 for a Ford part though)

You do mean the part where you have the main nut assy attached and not the blades assy that attached to the arms right? If so this is worth it rather than finding paint to respray.

Yes these are the arms that bolt to the rotating pivot. The blade assemblies from Mitsu are another $15 each: WIPER BLADE & RUBBER LH $15.00 (MR908440) RH $15.00 (MR908441)

just a question are they steel or alloy?

Both. The cast part that bolts to the spindle is soft alloy. The arm part that holds the blade and the spring mechanism is steel.

anyone tryed polishing the alloy piece?
My first gen chewed out the spindle on the originals, and the replacements were faded. So they were repainted back to black.
