View Full Version : cant stop steering wheel squeaking!
I have an Autotechnica Boss Kit and Steering wheel, and on a warm day when i turn left or right the steering wheel squeaks very loudly.
I have removed the boss kit and oiled everything that moves, but the squeak is still there. I think it may be something further down the steering mechanism that I cannot get to. I have sprayed heaps of WD40 down there, oiled it, greased it, tried everything - but it still squeaks!
Has anyone had this same problem, and have you been able to fix it?
Cheers,
Kim

yup i got a squeaking problem that comes and goes.. not too sure what it is.
i have a feeling it might be something to do with the power steering rack or something.
i hope it isnt.. hm
mine sounds like it is in the hub - just behind the wheel (not as far down as the rack itself). It does it mostly on hot days for some reason (maybe the oil in there thins out on hot days and does not work as well?)
I have this too, and I *suspect* that it is because of the plastic behind the wheel/plastic colum casing rubbing on the back side of the wheel/that funny shiney material type stuff that covers the wheel.
Dunno how to fix it, I can't really say it annoys me that much.
Maybee try covering the plastic surfaces that you *think* may be touching with a light application of amourall. that **** makes anything slippery.

Mine made a noise...I just greased the part on the back of the boss that the earthing contact for the horn touched. Fixed it up...no more noise.
what kinda grease did you use? I've used dry auto lube, and normal hinge oil... didnt make a difference :(
