I'm posting this message here regarding my sisters TE V6.

This is the second time this has happened, and thus we want to know whats going on. When filling up the car when its near empty, we have a rush of fuel comming out from under the car. This only occurs when we hold the fuel pump handle right in and pump fast. if it is not fully inserted, and is regulated at a normal pace, nothing happens.

Has anyone else experienced this, or does anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe.. A hole in your fuel line or fuel tank.. maybe?
I aint an expert, but that doesnt happen on our TE..

If I remember clearly, fuel tanks have a hole to allow the gases expanded inside to escape. It might just be because the rush of fuel causes the petrol to leak out..

But best to have it checked

Sometimes after long amounts of driving (~60-90mins) and I open the tank for a refuel, the gas escapes then, a fair amount of gas too... could my hole (TR Magna) be blocked? Is it a potential threat?

Or is the discharge from the feul cap normal?

My TE definately doesn't do anything like that, but I do always find that every petrol pump is different for different cars.

My brothers car for example, seems to be desined in such a way that you can only have the nozzel 1/10th of the way in, otherwise it immediately clicks off.. must be a strange shaped petrol tank.

I usually find with my car, putting the nozzel all the way in and going flat-out is fine.. some will click off.
Also, if you've been going flat out the whole time and are getting near full (you can hear the fuel getting to the top) stop for a few seconds.. I find they never click off fast enough and petrol comes spewing back out.. bugger when it gets on your legs/shoes.

Gas discharged through the fuel cap opening is normal.. don't worry.. but I do suggest like most would tell you.. have it checked out.. if I am not wrong, the fuel tank is right below the passenger seat and it could be leaking anywhere from the inlet to the tank...

I have the same problem with my TF, I find that if I hold the nozzle an angle( tip facing up) it fills fine.

apparently i read somewhere you're supposed to position the nozzle more vertical relative to the ground rather than leaning it skywards. this way, the mechanism can detect fuel level in your tank better and petrol won't spill out. if you choose to lean it skywards, you can put more petrol in but it's almost definitely that petrol will come spewing out :D

Yeah If I do that it constantlly stops filling due to that mechanism from the moment I start filling, I think petrol must be splashing onto the nozzle or somthing.
