Hi all,
has anyone had the problem of losing power when it rains or driving through a lot of puddles. It goes like this, driving along in the rain when the car hesitates than starts losing power, keep the foot flat on the floor until a what seem like a truck hitting you from the rear when the engine powers ip again. No codes are displayed on the ECU and everything runs fine in the dry. I have had a look at all the witing and nothing appears out of order. Would be ineretested if anyone can help me with this problem. Thgis has been happening for around 1.5yrs and the car gets book servicings regularily. Would appreciate an email if you can help me.

Are you accelerating hard before this happens or are you just maintaining speed?

Next time it rains give your dizzie and leads and electrical connectors (under the bonnet) a spray of wd40 and go for a drive to see if it still does it. If it doesnt, next time it rains just spray things one at a time till the problem stops.

It sounds like waters getting in and the wd40 will fix that.

If it turns out to be an electrical connector, give it a good clean, put it together and put some tape over it to seal it.

The dizzie cap and leads can be cleaned or replaced if they are the problem. The wd40 wont hurt anything. :)

It happens at any time, but normally when just cruising. If I come to a stop the engine stalls unless I keep up revs. I will try the WD-40 thing. The main problem is that it is normally pelting down. It will normally drive for a bit OK then do it again. I had assumed that it was electrical but was after a starting point or an answer if anyone had come accross it before. Thanks for your suggestions.

as Ol' Fart said, its an electrical problem. You probably have an exposed piece of wire either going
into or out of the dizzie and when it rains, water spray gets to it and shorts it out until the revs are
high enough to overcome the short (or something like that).

When I had by TP's engine cleaned, they got water into the dizzie. It was the same problem, no
speed until the revs reach above a certain amount and then bang on the power. Took it back and
got them to dry it up. Was fine after that.

do you have any dash lights on ?

sounds like an altinator dying to me !

Not being a smart arse but does water affect the alternator?

*edit* Ice_Magik, where did your post go?

Doesn't appear to affect the alternator. The dizzie was on my mind and checked the price of one but thought before I go spending $90 on a new cover I would have a look at other options first.

sounds like either air flow meter or oxy sensor, have these item been touched for any reason.

Does it happen when say ur stopped at the lights and go to take off moderatley? does it hesitate then?

No never hesitates at lights, this only ever happens when it is raining.

what sort of air intake do you have,is it sealed unit or are there holes in it, if there are you may be sucking water in through the air intake,i know this can kill all power.
