righto, got the ralliart cam's i've had sitting around for some time installed today, car goes great, already feels faster, revs better etc etc etc

one problem, she sounds like a truck, the tappets are making a hell of a lot more noise than they did, i was informed by the mechanic that this is nothing unusual when putting cams with more lift in......

just wondering if anyone else found this to happen post cam install, basically want to know if it's gonna go away, or if i need to get some better oil, or if i need to shoot my mechanic.......

thanks in advance yal

My car was whisper quite with my new cams installed. I'd have to double check but I'm prettu sure my current cams (RPW Stage 1) have more lift than the Ralliart grind - they certainly make more power than a Ralliart.

Check they put the right kind of oil in.

limp it to wherever installed them and tell them to fix it, this could be distroying your cams and lifters. sounds like they didn't use upper cylinder lube when installing, either that or you have low oil pressure/gunked up tappets.

Exactly right, running for 2-3 minutes after installation any noise in the valvetrain should disappear as they bleed themselves.

or even worse maybe a tappet fell out of the rocker and being jammed

thanks guys, i was affraid all wasn't well, don't think they'd sell many ralliart's if they sounded like an econo-van.....

I'll get em to put some better oil in it, which they did say may help, but yeah, think something must be wrong.....

Out of interest, what did installation cost you?

Did u get new tappets? If u used the old ones there used to the old cams. If you cange cams it's best to put new tappes in so they ware to the new cams.

Currently Caplan is getting an oil change and flush to see if that fixes it. Hopefully it will.

Have you upgraded the springs because of the extra lift?

magnas have noisy tappets on even stock magnas. they do get noisier with cams and will wear out quicker. but they shouldnt be too noisy with rpw cams, im guessing the pressure inside them wasnt relieved when the rockers were removed from the car.

unless you have a regrind with alot taken out, you dont need new hydrolic tappets. i would still give them a quick service while i was there though to make sure they are traveling properly.

yay, i have a lamborghini, and not the fun kind....

answers:

round the 500 mark

and nope didn't get anythin new but the cams, right now it's looking like i'll be investing some more in the top end with little to show for it cos she's still tapp'n away, apparently the cam followers are worn and to blame but right now i'm over spending money (i'm beginning to understand how black beard feels) so if anyone in nsw hears a tractor and see's a magna, laugh it up, cos i won't be :doubt:.....

gonna take the biatch to misti next week and pray someone has seen it before and knows an easy fix otherwise it's gonna be a noisy, only slightly faster christmas.....

My TM has had noisy tappets several times. It only ever happened when the oil got low in the sump for some reason and with a top up it went away.
