I have just been offered some 130WRMS 8" Morel 2-ways by a mate of mine as he cant fit them in his new car... hes asking about $130 and he paid $450 a few years ago.

I have Morel 6.5" splits up front and a Response 12" sub in the boot. For rear fill I just have some crappy VDO 6x9s which are hardly ever used.

Do you think there would be any benifit me getting them? I would need to buy a new amp and they would be wasted off the headunit.

I was thinking of replacing the VDOs with them, but it looks pretty fiddly to fit 8" speakers in the parcel shelf... any ideas/suggestions? Would they clash with the sub? Also my install would no longer look stock, as I would have to ditch the factory speaker cover...

Cheers
Pete

oh yes! mount the woofer in the front somewhere (is there room in the kick panels?) and make the front stage 3-way... can be difficult but i've heard a few cars setup like this and....

haha, probably won't fit. Custom made door pods and mounts..preferrably fibreglass ones....however

if you don't want them I WANT THEM!!!

Do they come with crossovers as well? model? specs? :D If i was to get it i'd just leave them as 2 way

Yep, custom mount them into the front. Move the 6.5" set to the rear, throw out or sell the 6x9's.

I'm not the Morel God of AMC (Tim... oh Tim!) but I don't think a 3-way setup with the 8", 6.5" and the tweet would be much good. You would have to source a 3-way crossover for them (or modify one) to suit the 6.5", as I think the mids in their 3-way sets are 3.7". While it would still sound great, it may not quite be what it could be. I could be wrong, and Tim knows about this as he is running Morel gear all mixed and matched, so drop him a PM.

Also, I didn't know Morel did an 8" set of splits. I know they do a 9" set though. The 2-ways in the 9" Elantes have an RRP of $950 or more. If you got these for $150, id say they might be a couple of years old and may be an older model. But still, $150 is a steal.

They are not a split! Sorry I should have classified... they are a 2 way coaxial. One 8" woofer and one tweeter (although it looks big enough to be a 3" or 4" woofer!)
Yes they are a few years old, but in mint condition. One of the metal grills has a little dent, but I can pull that out easily enough. They dont have a dedicated crossover... just an inductor for the HP filter to the tweeter.

Do you think they would sound as good as the 6.5" splits up front?? The splits are new. I was thinking the 8" might sound pretty bass heavy up the front. I could just mount them in the doors where the splits are now as they have a pretty low profile. They would fit behind the dor trim easily on an mdf mount... and shift the splits to the parcel shelf... hmmm That would produce a low sound stage though as I cant position the tweeters.

TIIIMMMM!!!!

Guys they are a coaxial so already have tweeters integrated.

Im installing 9" Morel Midbasses up front. You can either make door pods or make a box under the seat firing up into the glass.

You may be able to fit them in behind the trims if your lucky.

It ends up being a lot of custom work which costs a lot of time and money. So depends if you can be bothered.

Thanks for the replies.

But... would they sound bad if I put them in the back parcel shelf??? i.e. clashing with the sub.
Is the back doors an option?

Also anyone got some suggestions of costs, as Ive always done my own installs, but think this one is a bit out of my league as it involes fiberglass most likely...
