Hey guys, I know a few ppl would have the 6G72 12 valve V6 engine.. how good are they? I owned a TF V6 Magna with the 6g72 24 valve engine and it was brilliant. I'm hesitant to drive my KS V6 hard because it's had the top end rebuilt and i'm a bit worried about redlining etc. I forgot i was in low today and it hit 6,300rpm and I was like, ouch.
Does anyone know when the rev limiter cuts in?

haha you iiot 6300rpm my god.....with the resinators off that woulda sounded HOT.

as far as when the rev limiter cuts in....sorry buddy i got no idea.....when i drive (on my ls) if i go past 2300rpm my mum tells me off :doubt:

but i havent revved mine past 4800 yet :doubt:

i don't think there is a rev limiter on that motor, (which is what i have in my TS :P) ..go the 5spd 3.0L TS :)
mate of mine had 1 and he **accidentally** redlined it for a little to long,
did a fair bit of valve damage :P not too mention the rest.
bent almost everyone of them !!

I've got a 12v sitting in my garage...

It just sits there...doesnt do anything lol

Nah seriously...great motor. It's just nothing compared to its big brother, DOHC 24v 6G72 thats all.

But it is a tough motor.

my work car is an auto 3L TS, they dont have enough power to actualy need to rev, i just use the torque which is a nice feeling after needing 8k to get the charade moving

my 2.6 has a rev limiter thats right on the redline, the revs just keep boucing back and forth 100-200 or so rpm, only hit it once or twice, but im not shure about the v6's, id like one actually :D

being 12v they can't breathe well enough for you to need to hit the rev limiter; it's pretty close to redline.

hey kb does the DOHc lose out on torque to the sohc??

mine sounds pretty bull**** good when reving off tits; never hit the rev limiter though. By the way my sisters ks just hit 350000km's and still revs out; got good top end and torque; auto takes way to long to wind up. Worst thats happened to it is cracked radiator; thats where maintainance gets ya. :)

The 6G72 DOHC motor has a little less low end torque in comparison to the SOHC but pulls the nuts off of one when it comes to HP.

As for worrying about redline... psh, i wouldnt think twice, I've had my DOHC bouncing at 7200rpms for 10 or 15 seconds before... Sure if you do it ever day it aint good but once or twice, dont worry about it. Its like mitsu built these motors to drop into tanks, they just go and go and go.

The SOHC redline is at 6k rpms and limits around 6400 or so. DOHC is 7200. Remember the redline just means you're getting up there, they can go past redline for an extra 2000rpms so if your red is 6 you hypothetically could run it to 8 before blowing something.

No it actually has substantially more torque...but it's all pretty much evenly spread out:

As you can see, the torque curve is almost flat. The SOHC 12v's have less torque but it's concentrated lower in the rev range...so what you'll see is, if side by side, the SOHC 12v will pull ahead initially, then the DOHC will tear past it.

']hahaha which means ill beat you over 20m ;)
lol if the launch is right ;)

Keep in mind that my car uses an Auto US diamante ECU (non cali AFAIK) so they do tend to run a bit more rich than the manual equivalent.

haha rich or not you'll still whip anyones ass.....

may i ask why your using an auto ECu instead of a manual one? (if there is such a thing?)

It was all I could get lol Thats the only reason why.

Try searching for a 90-93 3000GT manual ECU, it was very hard!! lol

I'm in the market for 3kgt ECU's... if i come across the non-turbo 5spd ecu for the 6g72 i'll let you know. I'm actually looking for a turbo auto ecu and such thing doesnt exsist so i'm gonna be spending a lot of time at radio shack bying resistors all day long.

As a tip you might wanna head on over to the forums at www.3si.org them guys are always selling ecu's for 3's. You'll find what you're looking for there definately.

Noone replies to ANY of my posts on 3si :(

Bastards lol

If you do find one Dpack, I'll be interested (if the car isnt already sold) but it has to be a 3 plug ECU, pre 94 (I think it is, in 3000GT anyway)

geez that graph is beautiful. When do my conversion sometime next year i'm going to have to get post 94 engine and ecu; won't matter about the ecu though; haltech will sort that out :P . nice one

Yeah Mitsu were ahead of the game and converted to OBD-II in 94 instead of 96 like most of the automotive industry.

I havent had much luck over at 3si either, hell they wont even let me get an account there! But i got a contact in the junkyard industry over here, is part of a franchise of sorts and can do a quick check of inventory of a good 200 or something places all over the country. So yeah, i'll put the word out.

hahaha don't even know what OBD-II is; an ecu that adapts to different situations??
ps please explain
cheers aj

and pppppppppps i have to put post 95 engine in my car as its a 95 model; otherwise illegal in oz
peace out

On Board Diagnostics (i think). OBD-I was kinda ghey in comparision to OBD-II... you can plug a scan tool into an OBD-II port and it'll give you a read out from ever sensor on the car, what codes there are if anything is bad, procedures for non-coded symptoms, all sorts of stuff. OBD-I just gave the codes if something in there was going bad.
