Have you actually driven the car that far? Dont believe the trip computer, its lying to you! Evil bastard little things.

I'm not sure why my fuel economy has been improving. when i bought the car a year ago was getting 13.5 City. Some of youse may remember my ranting of the heavy fuel consumption here....

....then July this year when I checked again it was 11.7. now its 11.2 for a month. Hwy = 9.2L. I haven't done anything to the car except changed the oil from whatever it was to full syn 5W50 in March so far due to the distance (lack of) that I drive.

can be many things that you could change to help your economy.... run a higher octane fuel for a while to give it a clean out, has your transmission been serviced properly and is the oil in there clearish-red? is your car serviced reguarly, engine oil clean, not black? spark plugs and leads shouldnt need doing this early, but is possible... tyres in good condition with proper inflation (should be about 36psi i think, give or take a couple), air filter clean? engine might need a carbon/injector clean? when excellerating, do you push the pedal halfway down or more when your taking off, or just a little bit (you'd be surprised how little you need to get off the line briskly) the further you push the pedal, the more fuel it sucks through.

I cant think of much more for now. all these things will help a little bit each, but not enough to give you 200k's i wouldnt think. :doubt:

Im pretty sure that most people with 3.5l autos have similar fuel economy(400-450), and it seems to be the 3l manuals that are mainly getting into the 500-600k's per tank.

Mine- 3.5L TJ auto, about 540km's city, and and over 700km's hwy.
Like any car shorter stop start trips will chew the fuel. My friends BA XR8 auto gets up to around 24L per 100kms in stop start driving!!!!!!!!!!!!! So it could always be worse!!!

Unreal isn't it. I also used to regularly get 5.8 out of a civic. But that's because they're 1/2 the weight of an AWD.

ive been having a look at 3rd gens that come into work to get serviced with trip computers and im suprised how much they vary..

one TJ 3.5 exec's avg. fuel was 7.9L/100km and ones was 18.2  most are round the 10.8-13.8 mark so mine is fairly spot on.. plus if i want good economy, ill drive sedatley, if not, its foot to the floor

*checks economy reading on trip compuer* 15.8L/100kms for this tank

Very helpfull :D

I find that changing gears at 3k instead of 4k to redline usualy knocks off anywhere from 2-10L/100Km ,but i may have been acused of driving Ms Daisy lol

With the AWD i try to hold the revs between 1800-2000rpm during acceleration and then back off when 5th gear kicks in thus getting an av. economy of 11-12 with respectable acceleration.

for the manual mazda, it's also 1800-2000 rpm till 5th gear and av. fuel economy is 6.6l/100km.

i have a 2001 tj with 64000kms and get about 600km to the tank. has your battery ever been disconnected???? when this happen you need to reset the the trip computer to show that it is a sedan or wagon and 3.0l or 3.5l. not sure if that has anything to do with it???
