Ok s_tim_ulate, gimme your opinion on this subwoofer. I'm probably going to be replacing the Earthquake sub, and putting one of these in pretty soon. Got a pretty nice price on it so gimme your opinions, SQ/SPL :-)

For SPL I would keep the Earthquake.. For SQ I would go with the Polk...
(I am not a fan of Polk Audio as I think they are Over priced)
I think there are better subs on the Market..
Depends on what Enclosure you like and what your Aim is...
For SPL I would Look at SoundStream,Armegeddon, DD and Image Dynamics
For SQ : I would Look at Eclipse, Boston , Diamond Audio and Focal
For a Compromise on Both : VIBE,JBL,Cadence and Hertz

Thanks, I didn't mean to offend any of you guys by not calling you guys gurus, it's just that every time tim posts something it blows everyones mind away. You're all well knowledged on your car audio, and a valuable member of this forum in my opinion. (Hahaha, sorry for the cornyness).
As for magnat, the box will be ported, designed as commodore boxes, around 90L or so I think, and the ports will be 200mm each side. The measurements and sound stuff have all been calculated with BassBox Pro, and should expect hella-good bass but still have quality in it.
Yeah, car audio....i used to answer these questions...these days i usually reply with smart, useless comments...
Anyhow, the momo/polk sub is a good sub. Slightly on the expensive side, however, it is a relatively 'good' SQ sub. Probably not as good or as popular as say...an IDMAX, Boston G5, DLS, or Phoenix Gold Titanium Elite or something.
Umm...yeah, besides that, design your port box carefully! You'd probably want something with a nice, flat curve....

Sub go Boom Boom :P
Polk make some good subs, as has already been said there are better out there, so it really comes down to how good a deal you are getting.
that seems like a big box, have you looked at the subs data sheet.
i was looking at the same sub in an 8" and the data sheet recommended a 9.9L sealed. i know a 12" is going to be bigger, and a ported box a bit bigger again, but 90L!

Yeah, it's all been worked out with measurements and what not. We've analyzed all the figures calculated with the box size, port size, and how it will be tuned. It should pound like crazy, running at ~500w RMS.

I have the 15" Polk Momo sub and it goes low, real low.... Waiting for the back window to shatter!

Well my Magnats Needed 38 litres Each with a 3 inch Port Tuned to 37Hz..
So when I built my Dual Chambered Enclosure Careful Calculation was done to Ensure that Even with the Subs, Neons and Wall diveder it was still 38 Litres each Chamber... The Results are amazing..
A Generic Sub Enclosure has nothing on a Carefully Constructed Properly Tuned Enclosure.. the Bass Quality and Output are Double what you expect...

Agreed, that's why the box, ports, sub and vehicle are all factors which have been taken into consideration. I don't buy something without having every factor analysed as much as possible, I just wanted to hear other peoples opinions on this sub - hence the resaon for the thread.
I've heard mixed responses, and am pleased with each and everyone of them. I would agree that there are much better options out there, but the pricing on these Polk's are unbelievably cheap. I heard the subwoofer in action today and it went hard. Pretty damn nice sounding sub for the price, I'm definately going to get one.

The Decision has been Made..
You have made your decision on the basis of Price and the fact that YOU like them... Thats all the advice you need...

If you have a great price on them, grab them!
As Tim (and others) said, It's a good sub but overpriced. If you were getting 30% or more off, I'd buy all their stock, and try and flog the rest on Ebay for close to RRP!
Most Commodore Heads like these speakers coz they have 'MOMO' branding on them. This is so more money can be extracted from customers.
