Hey guys, I've finally picked up those spring compressors and will be pulling my car half apart this weekend for Gav and CAD. Are there any nasty surprises i need to know about when taking the springs and shocks out of my TP? I've never taken suspension out before so if someone can give me a guide on what to do i'd be very grateful, apart from that i'm stoked, i love tearing stuff down :D its putting it back together that sucks :( (this one will stay apart :( )

mate get ready for the most valuable peice of advice you will ever recieve to do with cars.

Buy a workshop manual, there only about $40 and tell u how to do all this sorta stuff and more, pretty much how to assemble and re asseble the whole car,

The Best $40 ever spent.

Most auto parts suppliers will sell them, just call first to make sure they have the right manual for your car.

I beleive there are to common brands, Haynes, and Gregories

Seriously dude, buy it.

Step by step instructions with pictures for every task.

Yeah there's not much point in buying the bloody manual when the car is getting dumped after thats out now is there?.. well i'll give it a go and there's me and my old man working on it so hopefully with both doing a side at a time we should get it done in a few hours. HOPEFULLY.

taking out the front macpherson struts at the front under dust cover
is the 3 bolts on top in the engine bay each side
and with the wheels off the 2 bolts (large ) above the brake and driveshaft bits the
cant remember if you had to drop the lower ball joint but i dont think so i use a long steel pipe to force things out
3 bolts EH??

oh yer the backs are easy, just open the boot, then pull back the side carpet panels then undo the top 2 bolt as well as the bolts behind the rear tire

sorry to hijack the thread, but undoing these bolts is pretty much all i need to do to acces the suspension ?

I would love to put new one in my car.

to take just the struts out yes, remember alignment after you put all back

I was under the impression you need to compress the springs to take the struts out otherwise they'd bounce out with great force (if you could move them at all).. I mean, thats half the point to the springs, to hold the car at the desired level, but i guess if its jacked up there wont be as much pressure on them but i thought they were still required to the struts out..

no there not needed to take the actual strut out of the car there only needed to take the spring out of the strut

The mechanics that put the suspension in must've used a rattle gun and just blasted it on because they cross-threaded the passnger side's front nut tremendously, ended up making the hex top round trying to get the nut off so gave up and got it dumped for $55, my apologies to Snowball (Gav) was trying but we had no options left, so i guess we all loose out, apart from CAD, i got the front slotted rotors off. woopie, no where near the same dollar as that suspension was going to make me and pay off the debt from the new magna.
