ok well ive been talking to a few of the audio gurus on here, and they have recommended the following 2 subs;
JBL GTO 1202D
PIONEER TSW-360C
now i went to strathfeild, autobarn, hi fi supermarket, and JB-HI-FI. the only one out of those that was connected up was the pioneers, so i listened to those and yeah didnt sound to bad at all (was just free-to-air)
so i went Hi-Fi Supermarket today (got Clarion SRS 1625 Splits for $98 ;)) and the gentleman there recommended the Infinity 12" subs....now stupid me didnt write down a part numer but im sure it was this one..
Infinitys (http://www.infinitysystems.com/caraudio/product.aspx?ProdId='KAPPA+PERFECT12DVQ'&Ser=KPE&Cat=SUB)
now i want to spend $150 give or take on a single sub, so $300 total,
Im After Primarily SPL.
now the JBL's and Pioneers are around that mark, and the guy there said he could do the Infinity's for $200 a pop, RRP $300.
its just that everyone has said to me how GOOD the JBL's are for the price, but the thing is none of these places have got them connected up (only 1 of em actually stock the JBL's)
im after your opinions, on primarily the JBL GTO 1202D's, and also the Infinitys.
but the pioneers also.
Cons, Pros, everything, well anyway if you can help you can, if not, well tell me what you would buy anyway :P
Cheers, paul
Oh btw i was after 2 subs of the same kind not just one

I don't really like the sound of the JBL subs, but then again it was very difficult to tell considering it was in a vehicle with no sound-deadening and half the time all I heard was rattling and what not. I've never seen the JBL subwoofers hooked up at any of those stores either, those Pioneer ones go alright for the money. Not really a fan of Infinity either.
that infinity sub in the link has a RRP of $US444. That cant be the same sub that is RRP $AU300. it would be more like $650.

There's no chance in hell it's the Perfect series. It'd have to be the lower range, "Reference" I think it is.

get 2 of the pioneer 306c's and run them off a pioneer gm-d510m monoblock, had this setup in my car (3rd gen) and it hits bloody hard, mine were in a genuine ported pioneer box, so some of the low end base would make you s#*t yourself, but yeh, that setup i just said is i good starting point, only reason i got rid of em is for the 2 kicker solobaric L7's im getting  soooo much bass

I have to Vote for the Infinity's as they have a High reputation in the Car audio realm as being a Nice sounding sub (Even in their Lower range) so SQ is pretty good
But if you are after Straight out SPL then the Pioneers will do a great job
as a Compromise on Both I would take the JBL's, Good SQ, good SPL and OK on the Wallet..
I am more likely to believe the Infinity Kappa's are in this Price Range
so I would have to list them as
1. Infinity
2. JBL
3 Pioneers...

yep sorry guys, i think its the kappa series, and yeah it wasnt $650 AUD ;)
magnat, i am after SPL, and heck i wouldnt mind them sounding pretty good while doing their job, so myabe the JBL's are in order.
For SPL - Pioneers
For SQ - Infinitys
tis an ass to make up my mind becuase the pioneers look sooooo goddam good!...and they go veryy nice indeed.
ill leave the thread open to more comments (i wasnt going to close it anyway eheh)

What about a Jaycar double magnet Subwoofer?

Dump 300 W RMS into one of those and Watch the Coils Fry... It wont do very well SPL wise, SQ, could be a Possibility
Construction of the Sub, Voice Coil Size and Power Handling are leading factors in SPL subs..
You cannot just use a Common Garden Variety sub and Expect a High Result...

that one was never on the list, thanks for the recommendation though, it just looks well to ghetto for me, and i havent heard meany people rave on about them so i guessed they were no good, magnat has just backed that up

Are you looking at doing competitions, or just general booming? General booming doesn't always need pure SPL orientated subs.

Yeah I'd stay clear of a Jaycar subwoofer, most of the gear is reasonable for the price but their subs suck.

I'd go the Pioneers, but that is only my personal opinion. I think the bass for the price is very good. I only had 2 x 10's in my silvia, in a custom made box and they really pumped hard. If u are after boom-boom (well that's kinda what u stated) then I would recommend them. (Just incase u need more convincing!!)
cheers :)

I've got near 300rms going into my 10" dvc response(not the one Ralliart 410 posted but the carbon fibre model), in a ported box, Haven't heard it distort yet even after extended periods of use and I've yet to hear a sub get near it's bottom end for the price.
An interesting comparo, one of my friends has a 12"dvc response and another has a 15" jbl both in ill matched sealed boxes and both driven by a jaycar monoblock and the response absolutely murders the jbl - something to think about.

Edit: No i dont work for jaycar :P, no I dont think there "good" gear, In fact I'm looking at replacing it with a vibe as I write, but for their price they're very competitive.

* AMC'rs : Remember he is Selecting from Infinity,JBL and Pioneer..opening up his options via Reccomendations will only cloud his mind, lets keep to the ones He is after...
JBL,Infinity or Pioneer...
He is after Big Bass, so a Common Garden Variety Sub like Jaycar regardless of whether it is a Response or Venom is not going to cut the mustard with 380W RMS being Dumped into it in a Large Ported enclosure.. Look at the Specs, it is Rated at 150W RMS as a Single or 250W RMS in Parralel.
Depending on What Model Fusion and if it Fits into his Price Category or not...
The Jonah Lomu and Powerplants may not fit into the Budget.. Fusions Green Stuff is not much Better then SONY only Green...

First of all, well done on the Clarion splits. That's an awesome bargain mate
Infinity's are nice subs. Did you have a listen to them?
Definitely better SQ than the JBLs, and more than likely to go a couple of notches harder.
(Yes, JBL isn't the be-all and end-all of subs)
I guess the real question in all of this is 'Is it worth spending the extra money'?
More than 90% of the time - especially in this level of equipment, the answer is yes.
I don't like the cheap Fusion gear, just does not have the build quality. The upper level stuff is great.
My last advice to you stands, unless you can get the TSW-306C's for UNDER $100 (and they have been, I've seen them twice at the price) then go for the JBLs. You have to look for specials on this gear to make a choice.
Also, the TSW-306C needs 35L/driver of sealed airspace. This just means a bit more of your boot is taken up by box, some people are unwilling to sacrifice this.

I've had around 7 top quality subs in my Verada, nothing will do the job like two Alpine 1222D Type R's on a MRD-M1005.
I believe they are the BEST equally balanced sub, SQ and SPL, with a perfect amount of either for some of the most picky sub owners. Keep them people turning around a 100meters away lol !

thanks Mitsimonsta, yeah he said these are the last pair of splits, i only had $100 on my card so lucky.......i had $2 with me for the rest of the day l o l o l o l o l o l o l
yeah i did listen to the infinitys, and well they sounded nice, but IMO the pioneers sounded just like it
its only a ***** as well cause i havent heard the JBL's
well everyones put forward such a good case with all these subs...i think im just going to go for the cheapest one.......i really cant decide, every sub has its +'s and its -'s.
ill be going back soon, and if i can get one of those subs for under $100 each ill pick them up, and with the saved money put it towards something else.
i listened to some infinity 6*9's *insert drool here*....bout $200 a pair, i want these aswell!
thanks everyone for your input, again, it has helped, but theres just SOOO many good points and bad points its hard to choose a winner.
the winnner in my case will be the chepeast one out of the JBL's and the pioneers :)
cheers guys

Awww ! Please before you go out and buy the cheapest sub you can find, goto a cruise and make everyone blast their subs for you atleast..
Sub(s) make a system IMO. When I listen to crap subs on songs im familiar with it sounds like half the songs being played
Also, a big factor is what type of music you listen to...

Genocide has a very Valid Point.. Go to some Car shows or Cruises or even Street Meets.
Find out what your ears like that way...
Buying the Cheapest wont necessarily be the Best Alternative....
[TUFFTR]
10-12-2005, 11:03 AM
i know it aint the best alternative....but its really hard for me to go to shows....cruises well i just cant yet.
the type Rs? how much would they set me back at a boxing day sale? :P
music i listen to is mainly hard rock (rammsteing only really) and lots of house/techno/NRG/ etc etc etc.
its pathetic i know, but last car show i went to was over a year ago, everytime one springs up in always busy with work or family or some **** its really annoying.
GenoCide - i didnt say the chepeast sub i could find, if i said that i would go out and buy the $30 super sub from super cheap auto which is the biggest POS ive ever seen:P
i mainly said the cheapest out of the JBL and the Pioneer, as they were within my price range.
if the Type R's are within the $150-$200RRP mark each well they should come down by Xmas so i should be able to get em cheaper....but thats IF.
basically the vibe i have gotten so far is this
Infinitys, Alpine Type R's - if you can afford these buy them, much better
JBL GTO 1202D's - very good sub for the price, a bit of both worlds
Pioneers - only get these if your a cheapass, but they still go pretty hard, but would prefer the other 2.
BLOODY CAR AUDIO!

Alpine Type-R's have too much hype around them.. There are Better subs on the Market
You may have hit the Nail right on the Head, YOU get the Vibe so GET VIBE !!
Mind you they are a little out of your price range but a Single 12 inch Vibe Blackair in a Large ported enclosure would absolutely Hammer
[TUFFTR]
10-12-2005, 11:15 AM
ill check these out.......basically if its louder then 2 12"s well then why get 2 of em if 1's better?
if there around $400 a pop ill research em a bit.......which i will do now

For ~$800 dorrah a price you can get two r's boxed im sure; and they should be on sale after christmas at any respectable car audio retailer. Though if you listen to alot of techno/house don't buy them; definatly not your most punchiest of subs out there. Type R's excel with DNB/RNB type bass; long, loud perfect note reproduction.
I also believe 2 subs will always sound better than one. But I don't want to step on anyones toes...

yeah nah personally i have a hate for that music, it shall never be heard in my car EVER!
*cough* besides the point, im just gonna go to hi fi supermarket, as i find there prices very good and hell i got 50% off my splits  listen to a few more and then buy them there......i actually liked those pioneers...and i didnt see anything wrong with them, and seeing as i dont wanna blow over 1.3K on audio TOTAL this might do it ;)
