Hi Guys,

Need some basic advice on matching a suitable amp to a sub. Now given I have nooooo idea when it comes to car audio, this is going to be a really dumb question, so try not to laugh too hard ok lol

Been looking at two subs:

1. 1000w max, 400w RMS at 4ohm SVC

2. 1000w max, 400w RMS at 2ohm or 8ohm DVC

Now, just wondering what would I need to power these things? Am I right in assuming, that for the first one, I would need an amp producing at least 400w RMS in 1 channel at 4ohms to power it properly? And for the second, an amp producing 400w RMS in 2 seperate channels at either 2 ohms or 8 ohms?

Second question, would it be better to run two seperate SVC subs or one DVC?

As you can tell, I am very new at this, but would appreciate any help thrown my way on this. Cheers.

Mark.

Basically want to know which setup would be louder with the correct power requirements, but as stated, not really sure what power requirements each setup would need. Anyone?

If your running Two Subs , this is going to be your Ideal Set up as youi can Wire them up to a Mono Block to Produce a 4 Ohm Load..

ummmm....soooo what sort of power rating from an amp would I require? As stated, I'm a newbie and I really dont understand a lot of this when it comes to mixing and matching Ohm loads and power rating etc etc...very confoooosing lol :bowrofl:

Well....not much help forthcoming...so did a bit of digging. Now can someone answer me this:

An amp producing 190rms at 2 ohm in 2 channels, will it be enough to power a 400w rms sub with 2 x 2ohm voice coils? This is the setup I am looking at getting, but if its not going to work reliably then I will have to rethink my options....

Please help

there is NO difference between the SUBS they will be both as loud as each other if u are giving the SAME AMOUNT of power to each

IF the sub NEEDS 400WRMS then give it 400WRMS or MORE

OK

NOW most amps will run down to 2ohms or lower, also most amps will produce more power at lower ohms

eg a jaycar amp will produce
Power @ 4ohm 800WRMS
Power @ 2ohm 1000WRMS
Power @ 1ohm 1500WRMS

therefore ppl buy DVC subs thus giving more wire configs so u can take full advantage of the amp

Example using the above jaycar amp with the below sub

1. 1000w max, 400w RMS at 4ohm SVC (THIS SUB WILL GET 800W of power)

2. 1000w max, 400w RMS at 2ohm or 8ohm DVC (THIS SUB WILL GET 1000W of POWER)

therefore SUB 2 will be louder because its getting more POWER

Thankyou very much....thats certainly clarified things :D . However, quoting your above figures, is'nt that slightly overkill??
