i'm not 100% sure, but i think my mate at work tried this and some drama's. not sure but i think it doesn't work as easy as some models. hopefully some of the 1st gen guys can help

I highly doubt the crank would be different, however all the crap between the engine and gearbox prob will be eg bell housing, engine to bell/h plate, flywheel and spigot. Starter may be diff to.
