i cant afford 2 subs but i can afford one....
Now i saw a 15inch Pioneer for $220 700wat...

Heres my question....

buy that one or buy a.. well better 12 inch sub?

If i were to compare the 2 pioneer subs 12-15 which would you recomend
(im talking about them cheap ones You know 12 inch for 130 or 15 for $220)

Whats your general.. i dunno feeling towards 15's?

I like low bass and i.. am clueless!!!!

Lets not take the amp into consideration... (i will get to the amp as soon as i get some money)

i have an alpine head unit with 3x4v preouts

hehe So the question is...

Should i buy one 12 or one 15?

i think you should spend your money to get a better 12" sub. Its not the size that matters but the quality of the sub.

i'd say get an amp first, then the sub. much better sound quality... you're gonna need the amp anyway to power the sub, so ur better off gettin it first *psst cadence* ;)

Hmmm so i suppose i could get the amp... Get all the wiring done From all 3 preouts.. and just connect the speakers to the amp... Until i get a sub??

the rear speakers (50wrms pioneer olds) will sound better than the Standard HU output? and then just change it when i get the sub...

But then again.. in the end i will get a sub....

so get a better 12inch than a 15 inch.. i thought pioneer was a good brand? (to me The name Plus the price of being 220 makes me go gaga as in like it)

nah dont buy pioneer subs.....
look for a nice 15inch dual voice coil sub... will sound alot nicer then a single 12 especially if u have a nice box for it... although not as punchy the bass is alot lower and yeah very nice
i have a 15inch crossfire bmf and yeah 12's dont come close
in the frequencies that they play...

have a look at JL audio 15's they are apparently very nice subs.... but if u want quality be prepared to spend a lil more then $200.....
spend at least $350-$400 and have a sub that will satisfy you for the next year or longer rather then get a sub and want more from it in a few months time....

make sure you get a decent amp too... if a sub is rated at 400w rms (continous) then be sure to give it 550-600w continous
more power = more control = longer life of sub and nicer sound
and also dont just look at the power rating look at the crossover slope the steeper the slope the better...look for at least 18db

The best question would be: What sort of music do you listen to?

Because if you listen to music that has lots of tight kick drums, then a higher quality 12" would be the go.

If you listen to a lot of music that has deep low bass then the 15" would be better

My brothers mate got a 10" sub, sum american brand "phoenix gold" i think, it cost him like $550-$600, and it absolutely pumps, its the best sounding bass i've ever heard, i couldnt beleive that it was all coming from a little 10" sub. He has the box built to specs and the sound is just unreal. he's running it off an amp of the same brand which cost him in excess of $1,300 and its only like 350w.
personally i wouldnt spend that much on a stereo but for those of you who would, i would definately consider it.
Not exactly sure of the specs, i can try to find out if anyone is interested?

Don't forget though that it's not only the cone size that matters, it's also the max displacement of the cone that determines how much sound is made. For example the 12" CV Strokers are going to pump a load more bass than regular 15" speakers... Also like any brand, Pioneer make cheap quality speakers too. Check out JL Audio also in your price range, if you really want 15" I'm sure you can pick up a 15W0 for around $250.

my opinion is get a really good 12 inch, itll sound better over a variety of music, i got a 10 inch coz i listen to punk and thats more faster punchier beats and that sounds ****in awesome, but get a 12 inch, ull benfite more...pioneer used to be go0od i reckon but now theyve gone all about name and popularity, listen to all different kinds on the same amp preferably, then u can choose the one u want...listen to differeence and the souind u like, but go for a 12.....

i reckon go for a 15..... its all about the box..... by building a good box youcan make the sub sound however you want it.... you can make a 15inch sub mroe punchyer then a 12inch sub by having a right box for the 15.

dont bother with pioneer, sony, kenwood, alphine, kicker
they all just mass produced subs... you just got to look at the basket... its all pressed metal. made as cheaply as possible....

go hardcore and buy a crossfire xt =]

personally i would go the 12 over the 15 anyday. I know a lot of people that get sick of the deep low bass all of the time, plus alot of ppl's taste in music can take a tangent when they buy a sub.

I say go cadence ALL THE WAY. I heard a demo car with 2 10"s of the bottom range sub being under run and they shook the car silly and sounded good. Get one 12" ultradrive (i think?) or beast sub and you will be cranking. Plus cadence have a really good range of amps.

Down with pioneer for subs unless you are gonna over run by half as much again. However, kicker make awesome LOUD subs.

gotta stop talking.

Cam.

Over run??? do you meen like using more powerful amp? one that has a higher rating than the sub states?

As a general rule of thumb you should have more amp power than power in your speakers, this eliminates the amp sending a clipped signal which is a guaranteed way to kill your speakers.

It just means you have to be careful when cranking it because you can overpower the speakers, but if you have good quality speakers they should be able to handle a bit of extra oomph for a little while..just dont make a habit of it :D
