hey i have a 92 TR 2.6 and its got this weird tick, almost like a slap really, comeing from the vicinity of the leftmost piston (standing in front of the car looking into the bonnet), i think it may be a rocker but thats just specultion based on that my last 2.6 motor had a ticking rocker on startup, and this tick is similar but much louder. the tick freqency increases uniformly with the rise of engine RPM. it doesnt really seem to tick at all in P, maybe a lil just faintly in an underground P lot, but push it into D and its just instantly louder, very weird, can really hear it past 3500rpms, but that may only b cos the car is quite loud.

Sounds like a sticky lifter, TRY THIS FIRST, it may sound cheap and bodgy but i've seen it work heaps of times... put some engine oil system cleaner/flush in it and run it for 20 mins or so as per the instructions, and you may just be lucky enough to hear the noise slowly disappear, then change the oil and filter ... hope it works...
