What's involved with removing your toe bar? Is it just the toe ball and tongue or is there some other bars and stuff attached to the car that can or should come off too? I don't use mine and it would be great to shed some weight, I don't think my new rear skirt has space for it - I haven't checked it yet.

i'm interested in this too. when my exhaust guy was putting my muffler on he said that if i didn't use it that i could save an easy 20-30kg. the ball and tongue can't possibly weight all that, so i guess there has to be some other stuff there.

The toe (sorry mysti couldnt resist) bar comprises a number of bits. The tow ball bolts to a tongue which should be bolted to a plate which is welded to the main crossbar of the tow bar. At either end (and sometimes in the middle) are plates welded to that, these are in turn bolted to the frame of the car.

To take it off, first remove the tongue (unless its a one piece item with the main bar ,which is unusual) by unbolting it and disconnect the wiring socket from the tow bar. If you can remove the bumper at this point do so. You should then find the mounting bolts for the main bar, undo these and manouver the bar out (an assisstant is a major bonus at that point).

Replace the back bumper and secure the wiring up out of the way with a cable tie for future use. If you had to remove the actual socket from the wires, note where they came from for replacement purposes and do not let them short out.

Ta da, your tow bar is off, yay. :D
