Errrrrrrr......what was the question :)
Err, Punctuation, and captialisation!
The Astron was a good engine when it was designed. However, with the Magna, it was by then a fairly inefficient design, and there were some issues with the conversion to FWD.

face it.. the astron is a badly designed motor that sounds and goes like ****
it was average back in the sigma days but was WAY out of date in the magnas

I can't even hear my motor, I got sick of the noise of it so I put a sub in the car. Now all the sub is doing is rattling rusty bolts out, blowing rust off the doors, and hell, probably shaking the engine mount to bits. It's only time before the engine just drops out.

I wouldn't go putting too much shyt on the 2.6...look at the competition of the day a 202 Holden which was slower and a 200 Ford which was even slower again. The Camry was ok but still didnt go as good as the 2.6.

Both the holdens i owned with 202's would have eaten my Magna.....

A couple of my mates had VH & VKs and they couldnt keep up with our old TN...and I even was able to stay head to head with my brothers VL...But then again my old man always reckoned it was a freak car - ie went better than other Magnas he'd driven.
Were the ones you had injected?

in my experience a stock 2.6 magna will beat a stock 3.3L kingswood/commodore.
they both have similar power outputs at the flywheel, but the magna is lighter and losses less power through the drivetrain.
i have no trouble eating old commies as long as they arent heavily worked, or just have similar mods to me. anything vl commodore or later would be hard to keep up with if they are trying.
i had a go at keeping up with a fakie monaro(4 door) with a 253 the other day, i would easily have been able to whoop his ass. he was obviously trying to show off and drag me and i just took off normal pace and kept up with him.
