i was just wondering what peoples opinions were in regaurds to a pod vs k&n panel. i know that a pod will suck more air as it has more surface area, but as far as air flow through the material it is the same.

i have a panel on there and am looking at hooking up a cai to the existing box in the short term. my thought is that as the pods have the plate on the end, even if you put the cai to the side it won't make much of a difference as the air would hit the panel filter in a straight line. i'm also looking at the cost difference. $32 for piping, or aprrox $170 for ez's pod box, plus a pod. currently i have the stock intake, but have removed the little plastic bit from around the bonnet latch to allow more air up to the intake mouth.

if anyone has had their car on the dyno with both a pod and a k&n panel please let me know if there was much difference.

also how much difference would an oil change make on a dyno test (oild due to be changed vs oil just changed)? the reason i asked was that i had my 3.5l manual th dyno'd at 170.2hp when it was due for an oil change. i have extractors, 2.5 inch system and megaflow muffler. approx 12 months earlier the previous owner had it dyno'd on a similar temp day and the car was bog stock, except for a cannon on the rear, but the rear section of pipe was only 2 inch and he got 159hp on the same dyno. when i got the exhaust done we first only did the rear section, putting the 2.5 with the megaflow and i noticed a big gain, and a small gain on top of the when i did the mid section, then another small gain with the extractors and again with the panel filter. i have read on different sites that putting good oils in can give more hp and it kind of makes sense. i had also reset the ecu the day before and had a tank of bp ultimate, but hadn't driven the car hard so it may not have adapted to hard driving.

any thoughts would be appreciated.

A pod won't suck anymore air in than a panel.

It's horses for courses. They both are designed for a specific application, one isn't necessarily better than the other.

Well, that won't make a difference.

the more surface area an air filter has the less restrictive it is letting more air to flow

air filters filter air
and filter noise

remember the old v8s they allways used the big ass filters
lets more air in

take the filter out and use a bit of fly screen
do a lap of the block and tell me what you think

i had a old centura and drove it around for 1 year without a air filter it ran fine

So, a filter that is 'x' square mm in area plugged up to an inlet that's 'y' square mm will flow less than a filter that has twice the filter surface area when it's fitted up to the same inlet?

Tell me. When a pipe under the road doesn't pass enough water, do they fit a second pipe on the upstream side only?
