Thanks to you all for helping to locate my Magna TCU.

All I need now is a replacement or a repair! It look as if one of the IC's is fried, and maybe a capacitor is leaking. I'm in Queensland, and I wonder if anyone knows of someone who repairs these units?

It would certainly be cheaper than the $1500 quoted by our local Mitsu dealer!

$1500? LMAO!!!
Go to an auto-electrician, you'll pay $450 MAX.

Cheapest quote by an auto electrician for a unit here is $810 .... PLUS they want the old one too!

I've just had a second quote for a reconditioned unit ..... $699!!! They must think its Christmas!!

Thats far too expensive, and I really dont know where to look next.

Check on e-Bay. Reconditioned ones come up on a reasonably regular basis. I picked mine up a few weeks ago for about $163 plus mail costs. I was interested to hear that Smokey's unit had 2 connections because mine had three and I also have a 91 magna, although from memory mine is about an August model. The guy that I bought mine from buys old ones and reconditions them. His e-mail address is "Glen Downie" <gdownie@aanet.com.au>, I suggest that you contact him and see if he can help.

Theres no real logic in how they work out these prices is there. For the dealership price of a new TCU, I could buy a set of tyres .... plugs .... leads ... fuel filter .... air filter ... distributer cap .... fuel filter .... wiper blades ... etc etc etc .....
