hey ppl.
anyone else had their clutch go? and gotten a new one?
apparently they're real expensive coz they're the pull-type, and the labour is like 500.
let me know - even if anyone has a clutch kit to offload onto me i'd be more than happy

Im a second generation memebe but yes my clutch went earlier this year. I had it replaced around june. It was expensive but well worth it. I think my clutch must have been on its way out when i bought her. I was lucky to have a mate in hervey bay who works at repco get me the complete clutch kit for 350. And he only charged me 300 labour. It took him a good 10 hrs as he did it by himself. Usually takes around 8hrs(so ive been told).

Good luck with it all. let me know how you get on.
As for prices try to do a search of forums on here it helped me out..

thx magna girl
un4tunately the cheapest one i've found is $550, and labour is gonna be another 400 or so.
my own mechanic said he wouldn't wanna take a chance and do it, coz he's never done a pull-type on a magna before, and apparently its more complex than the push type regular one, and so i'll have it done next week at ABS - the bloke down there has done a few and says he can do it for 900 even. bloody expensive but hey.

gona go for the oem daikin one, as its only 100 more, and i wouldn't wanna do this again.....EVER. :)

let u know how i go

i bought the car about 6 mths ago, and its now done 172000kms,
prob is, i dunno if its been replaced before, or how it was driven, coz obviously, if you ride it, and drive the vcar real hard, u can expect less life out of it.

yeah, for all the 2nd geners, your clutch kits will be miles cheaper.

and i have replaced mine with daiken type, and it feels great, light and very grippy.

i replaced the clutch at around 150 000kms, but it really depends pretty much soley on how u drive it.

if you ride your clutch it will wear out faster, also, i found slipping the clutch with the handbrake on for lightning fast get-aways can also destroy your clutch.

ps. at least you know you will never have to replace it again !

Like you would know... Im the second owner and brought it at 155000km and the first thing i asked was weather the clutch had been replaced or not. He said it hadnt and i took his word for it. So i budgeted for a clutch replacement soon after i got her expecting for it to sh*t itself. And within those 95000km i did on the original clutch it went to Calder twice and around Winton so if you know how to drive and look after a clutch it will look after you. :upyours:

really
well considering im on my 3rd manual magna i thnik i'd know

first one went at 95,000kms.. .. 2nd one went @ 85,000kms

and i know how to drive manual very damn well
i do drive my car hard though so i expect my cars to have gone through clutches a bit earlier than average

i'll bet my last dollor that your gearbox bolts have spanner marks on them from last time the clutch was replaced.... as if you'd take the word of a previous owner when buying a 2nd hand car... why would he want to tell you his been through one, maybe two clutches... makes it sound like his been thrashing the car... whatever mate, if you think your magna has done 255,000kms on one clutch then good luck to you....

lets not get narky about who knows how to drive and who doesn't.
lets just let it go shall we, and take whatever people say at it's face value and leave it at that.

hell, where's your xmas spirit

hahaha, the previous owner of my car told me Jesus owned it before him, must be true lol

I bought my car at 135 000kms, so i assume it was on its second clutch. second one went at about 175 000kms

got the car back the other day, the clutch is all better, but it does seem that for some reason the car sputters below 2000RPM, and then goes real well above that.
Would take it back but its freakin holidays :  it seems its a phenomenon similar to lean-out from a panel filter - only i still have a stock filter.
dunno what this could be....any ideas ppl???
