Is it possible to replace the plug which goes from my aerial to the radio?

I think the coax may have been damamged, but it's only around the plug which goes into the radio. I've asked a couple of people and they all say that it should just screw off, but I think that's more for UHF radios.

Is there anything special I need to do it, or just a normal pair of crimpers and another plug?

Hi Travis
First make sure that the plug is actually damaged. Have you stopped getting reception (a) on AM (b) on FM ?
Does it crackle in the sound when you move the antenna lead to & fro ?

If you do need to replace the plug, it is always better to crimp and solder where possible
Cut the cable 2cm behind the plug & start afresh with good cable and a new plug
Take care not to squash the cable with crimpers, nor overheat when soldering
