View Full Version : TL problems
I have just baught a 2004 TL VR. I am just wondering if there are any common magna problems that i chould look out for.
When i know this i can make sure they get fixed under warrenty.
I figure the clutch will die within the warrenty period, but from what i have read on here mitsubishi hang you out to dry on those anyway.
cheers

Humm where shall I start.
So far this is what I have had replaced, that I can remember.
Driver seat*2
Rear windscreen, they will squeak and rub funny, common problem.
Rear speaker, it decided to die.
Inner tire well front RH. Plastic tabs fell off.
Spark plug lead fell apart. Replaced.
Power windows have been adjusted as they came up to high so I couldn't close the windows.
Power window module.
Fuel sender unit and fuel pump
Battery, one cell died.
ABS sensor
CAT, got a peace of the exhaust turning vane straight through it.
I think that is it.
Other then that a great car. Oh yeah did I mention I am trying to kill this car during its warranty period to makes sure what ever does die I get it replaced.
I am also a little pedantic so if anything is even a little not to my liking it gets fixed.
how did you know the ABS sensor was stuffed. did the comp flag it, or did you find out some other way?

Seat: either wobbly or some squeeky. Passenger airbag cover will not sit right. Stock battery of low quality. Fuel sender unit is common with TJ on magnas.

I found that the ABS sensor was not working cos my break keept locking up. It didn't come up with a fault or anything, because the unit was not sending a fault sugnal, It to mitsa****y a while to figure out.

Not sure if this is a problem they fixed on the TL, but on TH/TJ, a common problem to look out for is the black surround on the rear window starts peeling. A lot of people have had this replaced under warranty, unfortunately I missed spotting it until it was too late

Same problem as everyone, there was slack in it so it moved back and forward under breaks. The new seat rails, as of jun 2004 are different and not prone to the problem.
Other then that i love the dam think, with a few basic mods it's a falcadoor eater

yep seat will be replaced under warranty, and so will 99% of things if you are percistant enough. The inner guard on my car was a sarga. Mitsi told me that i did it by hitting an annimal. I told them to get f**ked if i hit an animal to rip of the inner guard where it did, the car would be demolished. it took some convincing but it worked.

Hi magna lovers,
This will be my 4th Mitsu, starting with a Sigma 2L followed by a 1987,TP sw, then a 1997 TE, and because my daughter had a bit of a prang on the 97 TE and was written off, I had to buy a car in a hurry, took advantage of the Mitsu $19.999 special at NorthShore Mitsubishi and bought a 2003 TL with 39k on the clock, and some factory warranty.
I waited for the 45K service to take it back with a few problems now reading your posts they look to be endemic, but the Service at NorhShore Mitsu is bad, even their setup looks amateurish.
1: The car start and stalls, first thing in the morning sometimes, but usually does it after I drive for a while and stop between 10 to 30 minutes. Is intermittent but the service manager in its wisdom said it did not fail when they service it and to take it when it does. I think he does not understand INTERMITTENT.
2: I have wind noise in the drivers door at over 80k, can anybody help on this one???
3: My driver seat moves a little, thanks for the tip, I am taking it to another Mitsu Dealer and see if they fix the problem under warranty.
4: I found our while waxing the car that the rear bumper bar had screws missing on the wheel arch, they told me I was not under warranty, that it happen while in use, they charged me $19.90 for that item, 2 screws, I told the service manager that if 2 screws fall out of the car after 5k the BETTER BUILT should read something else starting with BULL.
5: In NSW which Mitsu dealer is good providing service ??
Thanks and have a great New year.

For the drivers door, I would check if the window is aligned properly. The whole frame fro the electrics can be moved and adjusted. If you find someone who will do the seat tell the rest of us.

Had mine fixed under warranty 2 days before end of warranty period. No problems now
