Hi all, I've just noticed today that my left outer CV joint boot has torn and basically all the grease is gone, the joint is growling at me when I turn right.
I'm wondering, how much will it cost to get a whole new driveshaft vs replacing the joint?
Also, I have replaced a driveshaft on an 84 Ford Telstar and it was a piece of cake though the driveshaft included the rotor.
How hard is it to remove the driveshaft from the rotor and what tools will I need?
My Magna has done 132,000k I read that cv boots should be replaced at 130.
Would it be wise for me to buy a left and a right drive shaft just to be on the safe side.
I'm confident I can replace both driveshafts myself if I can track down the right tools.
I suspect getting the boots replaced/repacked etc on the right side by a mechanic would cost more than just buying a whole new shaft?
Also, would I just go to Repco etc to purchase the drive shaft and how long after your joint starts growling at you does it last for?
My dilema is that I still need to able to get to work each day.
