can anyone confirm if there is supposed to be a seal in between the taillights and the body?
my ts magna is leaking water into the boot when it rains and there is a good chance if there are suppose to be seals ... they werent put in, [my car has only one original panel left on it as it has been in so many accidents, the upside is a good paint job for a 300,000 km car]
also, the ts is a base model executive with a 6 cylinder, i dont know what the engine is as i havent had a look yet... but it is leaking oil out of the head [by appearances] i wanted to know if removing the head and replacing gaskets is a relatively easy job to do, [i am pretty handy but never done any work on a magna 6 except for oil changes and filter changes etc etc, but have experience with holden heads and holdens in general] or if it should be left to the mechanics.
thanks for any help- mitcham

probably leaking from rocker cover gaskets; mine do a bit; much easier than replacing head gaskets. Hows the shape of the rubber ringing your boot; the lights have some rubber around them stock but not much else.

GTRICE, there is no rubber around the taillights! at all! so i guess thats confirmation, the boot is leaking around both the taillights so it was certainly something to do with a seal.
rocker cover aye? well i will have to get a closer look, by the way the enginew is a 3,.0 litre to anyone else out there

The 2nd gen did not come with rubber seals around the tail lights. My boot started to leak on the left hand side once upon a time. Never did a thing to it and it seems to have fixed itself.

is there any reason why i cant put rubbers in from a tr or something then? cos both are leaking and have since it was taken off of the road beginning of this year, so this isnt fixing itself, or is all i can do tighten the screws?
You could try taking off the light, or if you can pinpoint where the leak is and beading a bit of sillicone around the affected areas. I've had a look at my rear light assembly and from what I remember it may be a bit difficult to sillicone. Try a very light application smeared with your finger. I say a light application as you may have trouble getting the light off again after a heavy application.
Are you sure it is the lights? Check your boot seal *ork ork ork* as well.

Umm... a TR is a 2nd gen man... they don't have any rubber either.
The car shouldn't be leaking from the tail-lights, doesn't sound good...
Try putting a bead of auto silicon around it.

Oh yes they did, they all did, was cheaper than giving a spare boot floor with each car sold.
They have a foam rubber seal it is common for it to be missing or broken.
You can get them new, they are not all that much or go to clark rubber, make a new pair. If anyone tells you to use silicone, shoot them or inject it into them as silicone is acidic and will cause the area around your tail lights to dissapear in rust in no time at all
Unlikely that your heads are leaking, the end cam seal goes hard, this will usually cause the leaks if not the rocker cover gaskets
