Here's some happy snaps of the prototype. Going into some lucky punter's car for eval this week. Just have to find a 2nd genner that's still got their license ;)
Oh yeah, that's Street Fighter 2 Champ Edition in the background. For sale, make an offer. All buttons work.
I'll help you out :D i'm in qld though

WOW. I have a K&N panel, so it doesn't affect me in the slightest...but wow! Doesn't look too bad at all! Definately something someone with a pod should get!

That looks bl**dy awesome mate! :bowrofl: Lovely clean workmanship! :dancin: Top points for your craftmanship too. Your joins are clean, and look well crafted.
I have a small sugestion however:  For your lid, I would suggest to secure it with 4 large flat headed screws to avoid the wingnuts sticking up.
I personally hate (rather despise) wingnuts because they leave a sharpish edge of the bolt sticking up as per your photo, and they dont really look neat. You could use the 4 screws to replace them and simply reverse the process you currently have (ie: captive nut on the end where the bolt is currently affixed)
:soapbox: Just my thoughts, hope they are worthwhile to you.:soapbox:
Regards,
Gapsa.

A big "thanks" to everyone for their feedback.
Thanks Gapna for the kind word. Both Allan and I don't like the wingnut setup, but it's great for quick inspection on the side of the road when you never seem to have the right tool handy. The other concern with the wingnuts is the underhood clearance in 2nd gens in consideration of the box height. Will know soon enuf I guess
We can always cut the bolts much shorter - these were left over from the 1st round of 3rd gen pod boxes - and retap the threads to tidy them up. We could also buy shorter ones eh :weird:
Dying to see this in a car!!

this sounds bloody awesome EZ Boy, i would REALLY love to get one of these, really would!
does the box in the 3rd gens (im asking 3rd gens as you havent tested this one yet) muffle any of the sound from the POD? or is it still reasonlably loud?
and yeah, look really well made too, i'd definatly be in for one of these.
hope to see a donor car soon, good luck!

If I can't get someone in Newy to bite soon I'll take you up on that offer. What suburb in Syd? I go to western/north western sydney every month or so. Do you come up to Newy or the Central Coast at all?

The prototype went in today. It requires a re-design.
EZ-Boy is still nothing short of the closest thing we have to a genius on here.

Yeah, it's too tall. Need to knock about 2" off it!! The inlet will be shuffled over too. Easy modification on the prototype. Hope to refit this week!
keep us posted :)
Does the inlet piping have to be moved due to the auto box? (theres a moving part under the air box?)
Kim
I want one for sure, but im not sure my car will take it without making some other mods, its a carbie 2nd gen 4 cyl with the airfilter above the engine. If u finish making one that fits snug i wouldnt mind buying one (even if i have to make a couple of changes to my engine, i dont want to filters and i cant just remove the airfilter just ontop the engine as it actual feeds exhaust into the filter???? By the way its not the pipe going from the heat shield to the filter to warm the air i know what that looks like.).
But any could u pm with updates on it, thanks. And thanks on the work u've done it means its less work i have to do (and probably better qualitylol).

you can use it, you just remove the one on top of the carbie and then attach a pod filter on the end of the piping going into where the original filter is with the box surrounding it and the piping to wherever is most suitable, this is what i was told by ezboy and he said it is probably less restrictive aswell
Thanks, i'll take another look and c if there is sum unimportant pipes such as that exhaust one and just seal it off.
The rest might be re-routed to the left side headlight after i buy a box off ez boy :). Or somewhere better. ( I look at my engine bay and think i'm missing a hitload of stuff because theres nearly no wiring and heaps of space lol, i know its because it is able to fit a 3.0 v6 efi which would fill it up a bit).
EZ boy wheres the box sit cos i got plenty of room behind left headlight but i think it would be better in more direct airflow. Then again he made and im probable just crazy  so if it fits its good. :D

Moving the inlet to get a smoother inlet air angle for the cai pipe. Will be busy tomorrow with the jigsaw and welder!

The 90mm cai is TOO BIG  . I'm trying to catch up with Delphia asap, but he's just had a tragedy in the family so I wont be pushing.
Will look at dual cai pipes, probably in the 50-70mm each diameter. Apart from the cai, the unit fitted like a glove. So any day now really.
Delphia
10-02-2006, 02:44 PM
Yeah... ive done some looking today.
80mm is max pipe diameter, otherwise it cant get past the engine crossmember. The box however is the perfect size and shape.
Sorry about the delay people, ive had to spend alot of time either at work or with family over the last month.

Mate, given what's been happening in your life recently, I expect none of us really care if this podbox is delayed.
I've had my car for around 3 years - a few more months are not going to worry me.
You guys are being wonderful just putting in the time to develop this for the 2nd gens.

I PMed Kim whose trying to contact him - Kim's had no luck so far.
His profile will not allow emails. :doubt:
Maybe one of the mods could help us.
It'd be a big shame to lose someone like EZ Boy, he's one of the few who has the ability and commitment to fabricate things for the Magna. ...and I wanted one of those pod boxes

There are lots here that were interested in the Pod Box.
EZBoy is still around (Posted yesterday) but is obviously too busy at the moment to be designing & building these (and other mods).
...and personally I don't blame him - babies & businesses can really take up your time.
Maybe if we all leave him alone and don't PM him, and once he get's back on top of things and gets more time in his life again - then maybe one day he'll come back into active service. In the meantime we will just have to sit 'n' wait.
We have to be considerate of people's time & effort - this is a volunteer club with volunteer members who often go out of their way to help others - my hat comes off to EZBoy and other AMCers for what they have done in the past and what they may do in the future.
EZBoy,
If you ever want to come back to active service & make pod boxes, etc. then I for one am still interested and will welcome you back into active AMC Service.
If you want to stay in retirement & focus on Family & Business, etc. Then that's fine too.
:D
Hi all,
I'll be doing a bit of work on the second gen POD box (I now have EZBoy's prototype and will be continuing where he left off). I just have to source a plastic welder, etc.
Delphia - sent you a PM, but you can bring the discussion in here if you prefer. I found the POD Box to be a little too high (bonnet would not close) - did you do anything special to get it to fit? After removing the factory air box - there is a black terminal (wires going to battery, etc) - did you have relocate this make some more room? And did you completly remove the metal bracket that used to hold up the factory air box, or just unscrew the airbox from off the top of it?
Cheers,
Kim

you can plastic weld with a solder iron or a special attachment to a heat gun.
