Went looking at speakers yesterday and decided to do the trip to Bunbury to check out the Jaycar range only to find out the shop has no way to demo the product. The guy in the shop then told me the jaycars are only a cheap unit like a teac and couldn't be compared to a kenwood or pioneer etc .Wasn't very helpful at all . After reading some of the comments on here re Jaycar stuff I thought it was worth a look. What do you guys think of the Jaycars to say Pioneer, Kenwood etc Thanks in advance, any feedback would be apreciated . :)

Their new subs and amps are fantastic bang for buck.

Im not overly impressed with their splits, but the custom splits below sound fantastic! The woofer has a magnet nearly as big as the cone itself!

Super Tweeters (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=CS2210&CATID=15&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=318)
Super Tweeter Crossover (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=CX2640&CATID=15&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=534)
6.5" Kevlar Woofer (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=cs2230&CATID=&keywords=cs2230&SPECIAL=&form=KEYWORD&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=)

Thoroughly recommend this setup!
Their normal splits lacked a huge chunk of midrange, especially compared to the above setup.

Cheers
Pete

Yep those kevlar stand alone woofers are great, seem to be very different to the woofer in the split package.

Thanks for the feedback as I don't know very much when it come to sound systems.
Am I correct in thinking the 6.5 inch woofers would replace the door speakers, also thanks
Pete for the links

any probs with this setup in the doors, i need a new set also, that sounds good, not having to be a name brand etc. Do the Tweeters fit into the stock position (top corner of the door)

Yes the 6.5" woofers replace the speakers in the doors.

The tweeters should fit as they are a standard size, but I have never tried and havent seen looked at the stock tweeter mounts in a magna (i mounted mine in the kick panels).

You run the woofers and tweeters both off the front outputs from your deck (through an amp if you have one - recommend you get one). If you dont use an amp, Im not sure how you would wire them up (i.e. woofer and tweeter in series/parallel as Im not sure what load your headunit can take). Someone else on here should be able to help you out with that. If not the Jaycar guys will, just give them a ring.

Cheers

Rang the guys at Jaycar and they reckon you can run the splits off the H/unit no worries but with an amp is better . Have ordered Pete's suggestion ( 6.5 woofs, super tweets + crosses ) and I can't see any probs Gazza mounting the tweeters in stock spot, they should fit easy

If your planning on putting the tweeters in the sail area on the door then there is no way these will fit there. The tweeters in those Kevlar kits are quite big. You would be best mounting them on your door or kickpanel. The closer to the midbass speakers the better the staging.

FWIW - i drilled a hole in the door trim and mounted them flush.

Hey, I was just checking the Jaycar cattledog and noticed that the 6.5 Kevlar woofer has a range of up to 5khz, and the super tweeters say that their power handling is compromised if you cross them at anything less than 10khz. Where's this gap taken up? Obviously there's a rolloff from both ends, but a gap from 5khz right through to 10khz is a long way!!!

Hey,

Just my contribution - I have just installed the Jaycar Splits in my TF and I am bloody amazed at how unreal they sound. For $150 it's probably the best value-for-money bargain I've ever picked up.

Oh yeah, I've just got the splits package, not the seperate itemed stuff.... They'd obviously crank even moreso!

Rang the guy's at Jaycar and mentioned this gap and they said they would send me a different set of cross overs to fix the prob but don't know how they can without compromising the tweeters :doubt:
Am I correct then assuming that 5khz is 5000 hz and anyone that has got this speaker setup have you noticed any gap. Thanks (BMS)

I probably have a slightly biased opinion of Jaycar stuff seeing as I work there. But it is damm good stuff.

Until recently (I sold the car), I had the split system mentioned before with the massive woofer and tweeters and it sounds amazing. How ever you do need an amp. I tried running of the deck (4x55W VDO) and it wasn’t enough to get the woofer going properly. Running on the 2x150w amp :D sweet as. The problem you were talking about b4 with the freq gap between 5khz and 10khz isn’t a problem. The tweeters respond down to around 7Khz or so with the roll off. And the woofer can be crossed at 5Khz and respond fine up to 6-7. Basically the proof is in the pudding, sounds amazing. I had a 10inch sub in the boot. But I hardly needed it as the 6.5 inch woofers did most of the work.

Compared to the Pioneers etc. I personally think Pioneer are crap, well at least there low end consumer stuff. All there speakers are rated in Max power, and RMS wise there pretty weak. They have farley good sensitivity, but a set of the new Carbon fiber response speakers kicks the arse of most speakers in the same price range. 80Wrms on the Jaycar Response 6X9s, double the power rating of the same price Pioneers at 40W RMS.

I could keep crapping on, but u get the point.

I also have a 2X150W RMS amp 4 sale. 450W RMS bridged, great for sub. Took it out the car just b4 I sold it, and using a totally different amp and speaker setup in the new car.

i have two Venom 15" from jaycar and i have gotta say they're no where near as good as you could expect.

they're good for low down power but as soon as you crank it up they crack like its going out of fashion, my old sony 12" "pentagram" was much better for the high volume but **** down low.

the 10s or 12s my be better but i wouldn't know

hope this helps
