Ive noticed a pungent odour from my TS magna aircon when its first started.

It lasts only about a minute or two, but its horrid.

Ive searched the forums and found a few bits and peices about what to do / look for etc, but Im curious, can someone please tell me where the aircon drain tube is located so I can check that its not just blocked.

Thanks,
Gapsa

glen 20 or fabreeze. its condensation in the vents which makes that smell. most people dont even notice it, but its a terrible smell if your not used to it.

lol thanks, Ive read that, I was wondering if it may be the drain tube that is blocked, my car was sitting for just over 14 months with no engine, I purchased the TS only 6 weeks ago and stuck an engine into it, and now have this disgusting smell..... its like the old football locker room smell

Hmm, it will be at the bottom of the evaporator in behind the glove box. They can clog up but you will notice wet carpet and other wet items if its clogged.

brings me back to a story actualy lol

driving back from bdo a few years ago and my mate had a clogged drain in his aircon the day before and since fixed it. while driving he asked his girlfriend: "is it still wet down there honey?"
now i knew what he ment, because i was the one who found the wet spot(WATER!) and helped get it sorted, but his girlfriend was quite peeved and eventualy very embarrased once she found out what he ment

the proven AMC way, is to turn your fan on full ball, run outside the front windscreen, spray a can of Glen20 down the vents, then hurry up and turn the fans off

I did this once ages ago, and the smell never came back :D Proven and tested by many amc members :d

when you park, turn the AC off but leave the fan running at full bore for about 15-30 secs. i find that's a good way of reducing the smell when you first start it up the next time

dont smoke in the car with the air being re-cycled, slide it open to fresh and turn the AC right down.

there are air con treatments that u can get done. you get them done at dealerships (iam having a mate do one for me in the next few weeks)

basically they screw a tiny hole into the evaporizer and spray a 600ml bottle of foam that makes your aircon smell good again. Once the hole is there...the air con is turned on...fed slowly thru a syringe type device....until empty then a bung is put on the hole . Good for 20 000km's apparently.

Ok, I promise: I wont smoke in the car at all (gave up smoking 7 years ago, everyone else should too)

I was told by my local mitsu dealer that they just spray glen 20 around, I also read it in numerous forums as well. How much is the treatment that you described?

I will ask them after the break.

the main reason ac gets smelley is having the vent on fresh it sucks any dust and leaves down to the evapourator which is cold and wet causing the leaves to rott like your mulsh heap

the only way to realy kill the smell is remove evapourator and clean out the finz and only use ac on reclycle

Ok, how can I get to my evaporator?? Where is it located??

I had turned the car off after a 55 minute run today in 44degree heat, and running the interior fan on hot without the aircon on. Looked underneath for the tell tale puddle and it was only the size of a 5 cent peice. Turns out that the drain was slightly blocked, I unblocked it, and then got the glen 20 and sprayed it into the airvents, and the plennum chamber whilst the fan was drawing in the external air.

Turned the fan off for awhile, then turned it back on, cranked the aircon and the smell was way less noticable so I did the same thing again, left it half hour, started the aircon and it was almost gone so with the air blowing flat out, I sprayed about 1/4 can up under teh dash (because im assuming that is where the recircled air intake is) and then left the vehicle runnign with teh aircon flatout.......

turned it off after running for about 10 mins, didnt let it "dry" using the heat, or fan only method, left it another half hour, came back and cranked the aircon, no smell! :D

Thanks everyone for the input and ideas.

evap is beside the fan ....to the right of the fan

you need to get the gas taken out then regassed again to do it this way

So is it on the interior, near the steering wheel then?
