I have noticed on alot of the members profiles that they have the K&N Panel Filters installed on their cars. Just a few Questions: What model panel filter is suitable for the Magna? Is it hard to install? Would an Auto gain anything from it? How much does it cost?
Also as its an air filter does it need to have a cover? I have heard that it is illegal and will not pass rego checks if air filters don't have covers, is this correct?
Any help would be great....

it's had to install a filter, i went to get someone to install it, but he said that i would need an adapter plate ( which eh was gonna do ) but then when they lifted to bonnet they discovered that the filter has a sensor and he couldn't do it, cause it he replaced the stock filter it would upset the car's reading adn wouldn't be able to run, i believe it would cost around 100 - 150 for the filter, i don't know about installition cost, cause of the rest of the work that needs to be done,

what?
it costs nothing to put a panel filter in .... its no diferent to ur usual filter just slides inside ur box, it supposedly lets more air though and u wont need to chnage it again
even POD filters are easy to do all u need is an ival pod and the adapter and literally bolt it up
Panel filters are legal and are 1 to 1 replacements to your standard paper filter. Ask repco or anybody and they can look it up and get the number. (part no: 2151...something something). Piss easy to install, just like replacing a standard filter. Not sure on the costs tho.
For those who a little more adventurous, theres the pod filter. A standared round pod filter can't be used because it willl swirl the air and the MAF won't work properly. The one for a magna is an oval shape....and is the same pod used on a 3000GT (part no: 57-1500-1). Theres are illegal as the filter is exposed and oil based. To make it legal it needs to be fully enclosed. A lot of people just have it exposed, I have mine in an enclosed box with cold air feed.

What an amusing thread.
_stonesour_ and Anon are correct; The K&N panel filter is a direct replacement for the OEM filter - just undo the two clips which seal the stock filter into the air box, slide out paper filter, slide in K&N filter and away you go. Supposedly higher flowing, and it never needs to be replaced (can be cleaned, re-oiled and refitted with the proper 'recharge kit').
As for the model number - I don't know off the top of my head, could probably find it on the forums if you used the search feature........ has been discussed at least 50,000 times. Alternatively - ring up your local supercheap auto, autobarn, auto one or any other auto parts retailer in your area and they should be able to find it in the K&N catalogue and order it in for you (if they're a K&N stockist).
I recommend reading up about the 'lean out' or 'flat spot' often associated with fitment of aftermarket air filters, so you understand the possible implications of such a mod.

:stoopid: thats correct, installation will cost 0$ filter cost 100$ if on sale from autobarn. valaxxy66 u pobably meant the oval pod that needs an adaptor but the panel filter dont and thats the diff between them 2. and the part no. for the panel is 33-2151:thumbsup:
:stoopid: :stoopid: :stoopid: valaxy66 i think your talking about a K&N POD Filter which isnt any real dramas to fit as for the panel mine took all of 5 mins to fit(no modifcations straight swap).Worth while in my opinion. :D
Sorry dark magician your post wasnt there when i went to post. :D

As mentioned by black beard i sevearly suggest you read about the lean out or flat spot threads as once you install an aftermarket panel filter or anyother for that matter in the magna you notice a drastic loss in accelation at low revs. Although it is much better at higher revs but think about jumping into 100km traffic from standing still with horrible acceleration till you hit like 2500rpm.
