just wondering wat the idle speed should be on a TS V6 when in gear, and wen not in gear?

because i cleaned out my throttle body, and wen i started it, it was revving higher...

any help will be great!

Seek and you shall find.
Underneath your engines bonnet there is a sticker which tells you what it should be sitting at.

For my car its 1000 N 800 in D. But mine sits way lower, about 700 in N and about 5-600 in D. Book states give or take 50rpm.

I believe the V6 is VERY similar to these figures?

I got the same problem hey, my throttle body was full of crap so when i got it cleaned it didnt feel the same... my revs sit on about 1,500 when i turn on the car from Stone cold but as soon as it gets quater warm it goes to 900 - 1000 area...
did you clean it yourself or get it professionally done? they did mine when it was being serviced... best not have busted anything

Owner's booklet quotes around ~750 for manual V6 if my memory is still good. You'll find that the revs will sit high for a little bit and then should drop under 1K.

700 rpm +/- 50 rpm for both N and D.

i didnt plug in the idle control thing and mine sat at 1000rpm for idle.

double check everyhting cause it was hiding from me.

I think all cars idle either below or around the 1000 mark, can u imagine a car that idles at 4000!! Damn that thing would guzzle fuel lol

Good old TR's, engine mounts are shot, thats why they drop so low.

ummm if a car idled at 4000rpm, it would prolly slam into gear, (unless manual) But be buggered trying to take off haha.. or u would be a complete nut case for not noticing haha

I lowered mine to around 600 in gear, sounds mean idling with the exhaust too... and saves a little petrol when sitting in traffic :D

When you turn your air - con on and put it in Drive where does the Idle sit? It is lower than when its in N? How much lower exactly.
You can adust the idle yourself really easily, its only 1 screw.

the new m5 v10 has an auto with triptonic/sequential gears but when you push the gear stick to the right you can rev the car to about 4000rpm thne let go and it takes off.... kinda like a really high stall torque converter when you want it....

Erm... thats more like neutral dropping it... and if you keep it up you'll end up with a broken transmission real soon.

Yeh i know about the screw :). But i let my mechanic play with it.
Umm yes the aircon does make it sit slightly lower, i'm on the gold coast atm so i cant test it for you, but from memory the idle drops about 50-100 rpm

changing the fuel filter is easy.
It is located on the drivers side of firewall, a little to the right of the brake master cylinder.
Becareful to not put to much preassure on the fuel line as they brake very easily, ive learnt this the hard way  but now know how to fix it should that happen.

Use pipe spanner to undo the metal line under neath with a spanner to hold the filter. Do not use a std 14mm spanner as you will round the flange nut.

The idle gets set by linking 2 pionts on the diagnostic connector to give base idle. I used to have the pics on my site before i pulled it down, will have a browse and see if I can find them again
