Puck's Headunit & Speakers are finally in. :D :bouncin:
I've had the HU for the past 6-8mths (it was 2nd hand with the warranty finishing on 28/12) and speakers for about 2-3mths - just waiting on funds to install.
Front splits went into the Verada Door pods and old factory dash bit (Photo shows the tweeter with the grilles removed)
Front Doors and rear wagon trims lined with RoadKill Deadener/soundproofing stuff.
Alarm also fitted but no details there :shhhh:
Pics for those interested....

Nice choice of speakers Puck....focal splits in the back... wow.
A few questions:
Where exactly are those rear speakers mounted? It it in the rear door? Are there no 6x9 spaces in the parcel shelf?? (I have NFI - I have a 3rd gen)
Are all these Focals amped? If so, by what?
Do those tweets sound okay up there? I'd be worried about separation there. Great location for them if they were just ambients..... what model are those tweets?
(Possible upgrade later - buy a pair of the higher Focal tweets like TN51's and put them down in the doors as close as you can to the mid-bass, then run those others ambient, ie only 15-25% volume which lifts your sound stage quite a bit)
And just a general comment, II like the HU but it makes the rest of the dash look a little dated. The HU is so pretty though, love the analog VU's.
All in all, nice work. Got any Sub action going yet?

Plans for Sub & Amp but as said above - this will be later...
Tweets sound fine in the dash - it's where the guys recommended them. They may be a bit sharp/high/bright for my tastes but I have not turned up the Bass yet (Install guys recommended me not to for a couple of weeks to let the speakers run-in)
No pics of install as this was not done by me - paid pro's to do it.

Not sure where ya got that price from? Maybe an overseas web site?
If you can buy it in Aus from Pioneer at $405 - then I'd say there's gonna be a que at their door soon.
Pioneer US site has the DEH-P1Y equivalent (DEH-P80MP) priced at RRP: US$440

Pioneer AUS site has the DEH-P1Y priced at RRP: AU$1199
Source: http://www.pioneerprodj.com.au/car_entertainment/accessories/dehp1y/index.html
(However, I have seen these HU's priced at around the $800 mark in shops - I think)
Cheapest import (no warranty, maybe refurbished?) on ebay is: AU$406 plus AU$80 shipping = AU$486
Anyway, from memory (it was 6-8mths ago) the HU cost me around $400 (2nd hand, 6mths old, with 6mths Aussie Warranty remaining).

Rear speakers are on the side walls of the Wagon Rear.
No Subs or Amps (yet) - any recommendations?
Tweets sound (see above)
Tweets model = TN52
Thanks for the Tweet suggestion.

Only thing I have found which is not as good as I had hoped is that the rear speakers are too quiet - there way back in the back and behind the back seat & Dickie Seat. :doubt:
But I'm still happy. :dancin:
Puck signs out dreamin' of a sub & amp....

Cheers for the info puck. Never even considered it being a wagon, the location of those rear speakers was really confusing me!
Only thing I might suggest is see if you can angle those rear speakers to the front a little. You'd need to angle the baffle a bit. I'm going to do that on mine, Have 18mm MDF spacers that I will sand down evenly so that one edge is thin and the other edge is full thickness. That will help throw the sound forward just a little.
You will find with the tweets up there that they can be a bit bright. This is compounded by the horn-like shape that they are mounted in. Best to run them at low level in that area (ambient as per last post - tim will help you on ambient tweets, he's the man. I have limited experience with ambient tweets). Those TN-52's - they rock. They are bright, but if you mount them low, it isn't a problem.
Nice to see you got some deadening, and they guys gave you some good advice about keeping the bass level down. After they have had 5 hours or so of use, turn the bass up just a little. Every hour or so of use, turn them up a little more.
mmmmn wagon.... rear loading of 3x 12's or some crazy setup like 6x Diamond TDX-10's in the rear might be in order
Very nice. Hope to have a listen one day.

They don't live in a dickie seat in the back of the wagon do they? Could always take the box out for big trips, replace with a single 12" in a sealed.....
I have a 2YO and another on the way. He loves the bass, he calls it "Dadda's Doof Doof Car" :bowrofl:
Definitely my son.

ha ha ha - unfortunatley there is a Dickie Seat in the back - that's why I have a wagon (however, now I like having a wagon)
Although this is our "2nd car" and the Dickie Seat is hardly used, it's too hard to get in and out - so stays in.
The installers said they could put a forward facing sub between the back of the dickie seat and the middle rear seat with the sub facing into the middle seat ski-port thingy so when the arm rest is down, you can see the sub.
The other option they suggested was a tube sub.
Failing that, I'll have to leave the sub until the car goes to my children and the dickie seat is removed.
As for the rear speakers, angleing them might be a good idea. Also a amp may help too. (later)
One thing I noticed (but didn't think of before getting it all installed) was the cross-over boxes or whatever they are called.
I have noticed some people mount them so you can see them, but mine are no-where to be seen. I guess they are hidden behind the door trims/rear panels. I hope so! May have to check.
What's people's opinions? Better tucked away out of site of on show?
How do I adjust the tweets? From the HU or the cross-overs? Or should I get the pros to do that?

Yeah, that'd be about right, I thought I'd seen some in the shops for about $800-$900.
...and I did say they could be bought on ebay for around...
AU$406 plus AU$80 shipping = AU$486
But back when I bought mine for around $400 they were about $600 on ebay - just took me 6-8mths to get it installed.

mine are hidden in the door trims, but right under the power window switches, so if i ever need to adjust the tweeter level, just pop the switch out.
not sure how different the 2nd gen door trims are, but i'd leave them hidden, just make sure you've got the levels how you want them.
