Alpine are another good brand. I've got a Panasonic headunit and stacker but I would look elsewhere for speakers and amps.
Yeh i know someone with a good Alpine system... ah so many to choose from.
Thanks :D

Pioneer Make Great car audio gear, except for subs Wouldnt bother with a pioneer sub, havent had any experience with pioneer amps either but the rest is all good,
Alpine gear is nice but you usually end up paying for the name,
One Thing i have noticed is that Kenwood, sony and clarion head units tend to look Cheap and Gimmicky, (if thats even a word) where the pioneer and apline ones are ususally functional and "To the Point"
i run a pioneer head unit/dsp in my car and all my mates run pioneer gear and we have never had a problem, the gear is always great quality, never had a fault (except when my mate tried to do his own wiring and blew up his brand new one)
(and no i dont work for pioneer)

depends how much money you are willing to spend...
pioneer headunits are great everything else except for the origional bullet subs sucks... alphine headunits and amps are clear.... the type r subs are alright but i reckon abit overated and the top end speakers are good but nothing flash. kenwood, sony have no respect for them its made to look good rather then perform. sound quality wise good if u like distorion... and spl dont expect anything over 135db 140 if you really lucky and cranking alot of amp power.
1000w sony subs! dynamic power.... prob around 2-250 contious if lucky
kicker is overated.... used to think the amps are good but they only come with a 12db crossover and i dont think that paying $1400 gets you a very clear amp.
rockford is very nice if you can afford it
crossfire is awesome
jl audio is very nice
alphasonik very nice looking but haven't actually listened to any www.alphasonik.com
mb quatz is choice
dynaudio
focal
cdt
diamond
earthquake very nice/good stuff but a real sh*tty website
hertz
eclispe
a/d/s the rollsroyce of car audio
it comes down to whattype of music you listen to in the end.... and how well your install is... and whether the install is suited to the type of music you listen too and sounddeaden will make alot of difference
if money no object
eclispe top of line deck
a/d/s amp for speakers
cdt 3 way splits 2 pairs for the fronts =]
might as well match the rears to the fronts so 1 more pair cdt splits
eclispe d class amp
either the crossfire xt , the new jl audio or the earthquake magma subs
i wish =]

What ever you get make sure you mount it firmly....
I watched "FAT PIZZA" last night (the movie) and the Xplode setup in his datsun was making the whole of the cardboard sub box flex :D
it was quite funny. (Oh and I loved his talking in car computer )

I have the top spec JVC head unit and I'm very happy with it. I found it gave me all the features of a 50% more expensive pioneer. I'm no audiophile, though, so I can't really compare it to anything else.

Id go with either Clarion or Alpine, depending on how much u got. Im going with a kenwood system when i get some more cash.

Depends on how much you want to spend.
If you're after cheap, I'll recommend Jaycar over and over again
As for more expensive stuff...Im not sure.

depends what you are after in sound quality and features, most well known brands , Alpine, Pioneer, Sony, etc make good head units but they all fall short on total sound quality. Eclipse make very nice head units, not as fancy as the others but there sound quality beats the other brands no worries at all, of course you can go farther, Nachamichi make boring, plain ugly head units but again sound quality is fantastic, probably one of the very best, but at $3,000 for a head unit it would want to be. So comes to what you want,
Speakers are another one, there are many good brands, i prefer Focal but again they are over $1,000 for a set of splits. Amps, I usually pick American, but I also like Alpines amps, and I don't like Alpine for much else.
It all comes to how much money and what you want to achieve so a little more info on budget would be good.

my system is all over the place. that head unit is JVC... and personally i wouldn't really use anything else... very good quality, last for ages, and exceptionally priced for features (mine was $999 and has more than my mates $1700 pioneer deck)
the speakers are pioneer Kevlar splits, not that loud, but very good SQ
amps are alpine and US Audio, alpine seems a bit underpowered compared to its rating, but sounds very nice, and the US Audio is the best BFYB amp i've heard in a long time ($700 for 1000WRMS!!!)
and the 4 subs are all pioneer Bullets (the gold ones) very loud and punchy, extremely good all round

Ha for decks would go Alpine, JVC, Panasonic, Blaupunkt.
Splits would go the Morellion DXH-48-60's, they do however retail at $48, 990:shock: ( and no that is not a typo ), boston, hertz if on a budget.
Rear fill does not really matter unless you are going for 5.1 or surround effects.
Processors would go alpine
T.V. / DVD screens would go Clarion or Alpine
Amps for the main stage would go butler tubes ( he he they arent cheap ), JL, Audison
Amps for subs would go Crossfire VR class D ( something like a VR2000d :D ), eclipse, blaupunkt burning desire, JL1000/1.
Subs would get Crossfire XT, JLw7, Kicker L7, Xtant or DD'd 9970.
Whats the others have said in terms or sony being a marketing machine is true, stay away from their stuff, they may be the leaders in home entertainment but not when it comes to in car mutimedia. Kenwood is going down the same path as sony.

i dont even see where the huge problem with SONY is???
[quote:092b7fa3f8]T.V. / DVD screens would go Clarion or Alpine [/quote:092b7fa3f8]
if you open up the unit, no doubt most of the components are SONY!!
Sony were one one/if not the first to bring out TFT screens, their laptop screens are more than impressive! ive yet to see any manuf to bring a laptop screen out with a 16.1", matched with a 1600x1200 on a laptop!!!
holy moly!!
but if it wasnt for SONY, i dare say that the Clarion/Alpine units wont be as good as they are today. id say that Clarion/Alpine have built ONTOP of sonys great platform

Everyone has their favourites.
I have no doubt that sony makes good visual equipment. I personally dont really like their car audio stuff, but that's MY opinion and I dont mean to say it sounds bad, I just found stuff within my budget that I preferred.
Everyone's ears are different and yours like Sony, so be it. I have no qualms or quarrels with that :D

Sony used to be ok.... used to be but now all the other brands have far suppased sony and sony havent kept up. What happened to the DVC subs that they used to make? Sony need to make a DVC 15inch sub made with a reinforced paper or polymica cone and hook it up to 2 of their 1000WRMS @ 2 ohm mono blocks and get 150+db with that single woofer.
They seriously need to ditch the childish image that they give and get rid of that shyt HOP composite cone and develope something that will give them an edge, besides over boss and avalance.

At School we got a newsleter saying that atm DELL would give you 50% of the first item you bought and then 40% 30% etc for others...
We ended up getting 4 laptops for the price of 2.
Also SGI Silicon Graphics Workstations made a 1600xXXXX screen
they called it a 17" LCD but that is because it was wide screen... it would allow 2 A4 pages side by side.
IT could also be rotated 90' to allow Portraite mode...It had a DVI connector however.

Alpine for headunits. Pioneer rn't bad either. ECLIPSE.
Speakers, go JL Audio, mb quart, ECLIPSE and focal. Avoid pioneer.
Amps, go alpine, cadence, maybe kenwood, maybe fusion.
Subs, go JL Audio, Cadence, Fusion.
Just my opinion.
Cam.
P.S Check out the new Alpine DDLinear Speakers, they look good

My system is a mix of pioneer h/u Alpine speakers, eclipse subs, and USAudio Amps. Personally, I think Eclipse and Alpine are kick arse, and will be buying those two brands for my future car audio upgrades..

Lets get really weird, go Phase Linear, Speakers, Amps or maybe RS audio.
Phase Linear subs just won a major test with German HI-FI mag beating Focal Utopis Subs, they are expensive though, there amps are wonderful also but we are into very very hi end gear here. Someone mentioned Butler amps, they are very nice and that is the front stage amp I'm getting. If I go Phase front splits I will get a 4 channel and bi-amp the speakers, mmm
