Hey boys and girls, been a while...

My TF has an odd sounding exhaust, and I'm sure there's a hole in it or a leaky joint somewhere between the drivers seat and the headers. Mainly because when I have the drivers door open, I can hear it clearly. Is this a common problem? Anyone else experiencing this? Where could it be? I'm thinking cat or flex pipe joints...

I've had a look, listen and feel, but can't locate it. Wondering if it's a common thing.

Cheers dudes,

Danno

Check the resonator. Recentley i took my car into to ian diffens to get 2.5" press bend piping and new resonator. When i got the car back the guy said i already had a 2.5" press bend which was news to me(previous owner said it was stock). So ko need for the piping but he said my old resonator had leaks all over it from hitting the ground. I had noticed for some time power was lower than expected and there was a flutter noise coming from the exhaust. All he did was put a new improved resonator on and all my problems were fixed and the power was good for $140. But hey could be anything, hope this can help

I had to replace mine with a whole new exhaust cat-back, so I just went for a Redback system. Mine had actually rusted through the resonator, basically on the weld where the pipe goes in, plus about 20 pinholes behind the resonator. Sounded like a wet fart really.

Also, once you get one rust hole in your exhaust, they are like cancer, they start popping up everywhere. You can't really patch up all the holes, there's just too many and they keep forming!

I have my redback on now, I wonder why I never did it years ago. Much nicer sound, not really droney at all, just at about 2000rpm when the engine is under load and labouring a bit, but shift down a cog and it fixes it.

Nice kick in the pants at 3000rpm too, just seems to have gained a few Nm of torque around there. Also much better up high in the rev range, maybe 1-2kW...dyno test to come in the new year. Fuel economy about the same.... maybe a little worse actually.

Thanks guys, I live really close to a very windy beach too, so rust in the resonators would be a likely cause. It does sound like you two said, 'like a wet fart' and 'fluttery' so I think I'll have to get it checked out.

What a great excuse to get an aftermarket exhaust ! :D
