Hi guys, it's been a while, but it's pretty much done.
JVC kdsx985 - ex S_tim_ulate (caasqc winning deck)
Focal 165kp front splits - sound sick
Eclipse point source 2 way 6x9's in the rear - great speakers, full clear sound
Phoenix gold qx4150 4x50wrms @4ohm - powering the four speakers (ex caasqc winning amp)
Phoenix gold qx2350 bridged at 1x350wrms @4ohm - powering amp (also ex caasq winning amp)
Xtant x104 10" sq sub
Cheap wiring from aerpro- begging to be replaced
Dynamat everywhere... well almost everywhere.
Sounds fantastic, so happy. To be honest, I recon I could have lived without the sub as the 6x9's by eclipse are that good when powered up. Heaps of bass. But the sub does go low and loud, and for anything by pendulum or anything drum and bass, I love it to bits. Not actually operational atm due to a short somewhere, but it sdoes sound sick and would recommend any of these products to anyone.
Peace,
Danno

dont worry mate :p could be worse, you could have just spent 400 bucks on a HU, but you havent been able to install because you cant figure out the puzzle that is the dash of an 82 corrola

Yea the sub is a funny shape, but goes like a zirtek
As far as expenses goes...
$420 for the focals
$310 for the eclipses
$350 for the deck
$225 each for the amps
$200 for the dynamat boot kit
$260 for the sub and box
I think I did pretty well, most of the gear was 2nd hand.
The eclipses are sooooooo sick, realy glad I spent the coin on decent rear fill. Good bass and a clear sound.
Cheers,
Danno

OMG !! You did the Worst thing you could do in Car audio and thats use 6x9's !!
(what a Bunch of Crap TuffTr Knows what I mean)
I love your Equipment Choice and it looks like from the Components you knew exactly what you were after... The Best possible Sound system
I loved the Eclipse 2-way 6x9's they had Great clarity and a nice smooth sound to them but were a Touch out of my Price Bracket...
Can we see a Boot install shot ???

Why's everyone so against 6x9s? I don't understand it

There is a Certain forum who dislike 6x9's with a Passion..
We as Magna owners, Know the Benefits and Consequences of 6x9's yet we use them...
Some people cannot understand that point of view... Not everyone wants a Front and Sub Set up in their Ride and who actually love 6x9's, like me...

Ah magnat you still feel the need to try and prove to me that 6x9's are the be all and end all of car audio.
I've never said anything about disliking 6x9's with a passion. Why on earth would I say something so narrow minded
They are what they are. A coaxial speaker, generally costing very little to make in comparison to splits. They have no external crossover which results in shallow crossover slopes between the drivers = more distortion
If you think that I cant understand the point of view of 6x9 owners you are mistaken. They are cost effective and provide reasonable midbass compared to stock fronts.
I've said it a million times why I will not recommend rear fill upgrades to systems. Your ears face in front of you. If you wanted a night club feel you'd run all your speakers in mono and have spilt drinks all over your carpet. With a seedy cigarette odour leaking through the car.
If people want to know what a good SQ specific system is I will tell them that. If you want your car to stage well prominent rear fill is not wanted. Anyone who says differently does not know the concept of staging.
Rear fill is warranted if you dont have enough volume from your front splits or if you have rear passengers. Otherwise it is money that you would be better off spending on front stage duties.
People dont notice my car doesnt have rear fill as I have enough power to provide ample ambient noise.
@ Dan - Systems looking really good, good price on that xtant as well. They are really nice subs in the right box.
How long until the upgrade bug bites though ;)
Peace
Tim

i doubt they are the be all and end all of car audio.......
i think hes just trying to say you CAN get some nice sounding speakers, they are not all crap ass pioneer ones......
oh, and your ears are to the side of you, not in front of you.. :P

They are not the Be all and End all Tim, its just that certain "Car Audio Enthusiasts" Knock them down lower the Whale poo...
If people like the 6x9 then why can they not be able to have them in their System without being Chastised for liking them and the sound they produce..
Not Everyone wants a Front and Sub Set up... SQ was not Heard of when I was messing with Car audio back in 1991 , it was Old School systems with Front Coaxials , 6x9's and a Pair of Subs.. Your Car Rocked with the Bass and your ears were ringing with the Treble....
This sort of System has been lost with Audio Purists focusing on front stage reproduction, which I am sure to mosts sounds fine, but not to everyone...
Every system I have Planned and Installed for friends and relatives have all had Common priced gear featuring Fronts, Rears and a Sub, 90% of them were Splits, 6x9's and a Sub and they all left the Owners Extremely happy... They were not interested in Competing in Sound off or SQ contests they were after a System that sounded Just as good in the front as it does in the back...an Old School Cruising system....
I have a Feeling that this is What Tuff wants to achieve, so Why should he have to Change his set up to something that is not going to meet his needs and desires...
Look at danstraz Setup... This kind of set up makes me Jealous as it as all the Components of a Great all round sounding system, Fronts, Rears and Sub..

Heh, I'm a member there but they're all biased. So I could careless what makes good sound, whatever comes to my ears and sounds nice, I'm happy with.

It's a fact (YES) that if your subs push some serious air pressure in a 3rd gen boot it is no doubt impossible to stop the 6x9's from slapping*, but hey... turn your subs up more and you wont hear it..
* - unless you truly care for your 6x9's and have made sealed boxes for both..
I'm planning to rip my 6x9's out fairly soon. Will post results.

A Miniwall will help cure your problem Genocide..
I have no Issues with my 6x9's at High Volume with Big Bass, you just fade them forward a little.. But at those Levels it would be also Extremely Tough on a 6.5 incher to cope aswell..

Thanks to those that support... I do like the sound I get, but there'll always be playing around and upgrading to do. Starting with the install I think, and more playing around with levels and settings... it's all fun though :D
I listened to a few different speakers to use as rear fill and chose the 6x9's because they gave me what I was after for a reasonable price. More bass than splits in the price range and fit in the stock spaces fine.
For those that said something about slapping of the 6x9's, the sub moves air, but I'm not going for spl or any kind of db record, and the 6x9's are in the tailgate of the wagon, so are relatively unaffected by the sub. They are running at a fairly low gain, so I still get pretty good staging from the fronts, which produce most of the sound in the car.
Cheers guys,
Danno
