i lashed out yesterday with my chrissy bonus, and bought a K&N 'mushroom' pod filter (3") and the 'correct' 3" adaptor to bolt up to my maf sensor. after rushing home with my new toy, i pulled off my air box to discover the increadibly large MAF opening. I got the sneaking susspition that the 3" bore of the adaptor would affect the MAF, but i didnt think it would be bad, so i fitted it up. the first time i started it up, it refused to idle at a steady pace, but i thought it might re-learn so i took it for a quick spin round the block. I had turned the car into a slug! it refused to rev past 4500, and made no low end power.

i went home and pulled the adaptor off the the motor running, and imeadintly the idle was fine, and reved freely.
I returned the adaptor and filter to Autobarn to asses my options, and discoverd the other correct adaptor, with a 4.5" bore that keept the MAF Free from restriction, and then tryed to find a filter to match. It turns out that Very few stores stock a 4.5" filter or even a 4" filter. i purchased a K&N 4.5" Pod at a massive preamiam that was friggin huge in size and turned out not to fit in the standard air box location. take that back. then we find a DRIFT 4" pod, much smaller than the K&N, and a third the price, but the bore fits IN the adaptor, rather than over, but i tryed it any way. and it WORKS!

now it idles beutifuly, revs freely, and feels like i get a bit more kick at about 4700, all the way to 6K, and the NOISE! o' the noise, it sounds exactly like my 4.5" cannon (which also just happens to be Drift!) but its half a beat out of wack, so its like ive got 2 motors runnig. which is so cool!

Any way this has tured into a realy long story, but what im trying to say is be carful about what you fit to your car, as it can be a Massive waste of time, money, space and fuel, and i nearly bit the bullet and pissed the whole idea off altogether.

Theres a reason why most of us just buy the K&N Filtercharger kit designed for us.

It costs a fair whack but its a 10 minute job with absulutely no ****ing around.

Well my fricken K&N pod filter is lose now hanging by the plastic tube cause one of the connections has snapped off. Does this have to be repared straight away or when ever i get the chance. It seems to still drive fine.

You need to get an oval pod. It's been discussed 10,000 times over. I'm sure it's in the FAQ as well.
