Well, I'm planning to get this install cracking tomorrow, and hopefully be finished by the end of the week... Here's the outline of the system:

HU: JVC KD-G615 (http://www.jvc-australia.com/products/_products_sub_group_details.asp?ID=1393)
Fronts: Jaycar Kevlar Splits (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=CS2329&CATID=15&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=602)
Rears: Stock, running of HU
Amp: Jaycar Response 4x50wrms (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA0422&CATID=24&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=595), 2x50w to splits, 1x160w bridged to sub
Sub: JL Audio 12W0, in a sealed box for punchy rock ;)

And here's the pick-your-brain part:

1. With the Amp, there's both high pass and low pass filters for each 2 channels... But the adjuster thingy only ranges from 50hz to 500hz... So, I'm guessing, set the sub to lowpass at maybe 80hz, and the front splits to highpass at 500hz? Or should I set it up different?

2. My RCA cabling has little black earth wires stickin out of each pair at both ends... Do I need to earth these? Or not worry bout it?

3. What's the best place in the boot to ground my amp on?

4. With the front Jaycar splits - does anyone who owns these or heard these recommend I use sound deadening material on the doors? Or will they sound fine without it?

Thanks in advance... Also, please direct me to any threads if these questions have been covered... I've done a search for each, and didn't come up with exactly what I was after ;)

Cheers.

Actually, after doing more searching, I've discovered some info on FHRX's FAQ Page (http://www.fastfoursforumscarclub.com/temp/fhrxstudios/faq.asp#12) which kinda answers my highpass/lowpass question.... Which says, don't let the subs go higher than 100hz, and then set your highpass for front splits at that, so they start at 100hz upwards...

Yeah?

Yeah, most audio places set the crossover point at about 80-100Hz.

So set your sub at Lowpass (80-100Hz) and then set your splits at the same frequency but Highpass. Just play around with the frequency till you like the sound. You dont want vocals coming out your sub though!!!

The best place to earth your amp is anywhere as close as possible to the amp where there is an existing bolt into the floor of you chassis. Just make sure you sandpaper the paint back to bare metal so you get a good connection to ground.

The little black earth wires on your RCAs... I dont know. Mine didnt have them, but I installed a sub in my mates car on the weekend and he did. We didnt connect them as we ran out of time, and it doesnt seem to affect anything, as the outer shell of the connector is connected to GND anyway through the amp.

As for the sound deadening... only do it if you have spare cash. It can be pretty expensive, and unless your running some serious wattage in your front doors you probably wont notice the difference.

Cheers
Pete

Those black wires are GND. They are connected to the shielding in the cable. I guess they are there for better grounding, but Ive never used them and only ever seen them on once. They are not the remote signal from the headunit!!!!

Agreed. Black = always ground; Remote cable = always blue (at least this standard was internationally agreeg upon)

Nah, it's definately not the remote cable... I've bought one of those 4GA 4-channel audioline packs from JB, so all the wires in one pack... Won't worry about grounding them either.

And yeah, i don't have any spare cash now :P so no sound deadening ;) was only gonna do it if I REALLY had to anyway.

Well, that's me just about sorted! Thanks heaps Poita! I'll probably use this thread to post any other q's that come up during the install ;)

Well, off we go!

Those little black wires are for the shielding of the cable. In case you run the cable alongside a powercable. The shielding will minimise any interference on the audio cable.

Hey Guys,

Just letting you know that I've finally finished the install, and BOY AM I ONE HAPPY CHAPPY! I'm loving these front Jaycar splits, such an awesome set of speakers for $150!!

But yeah, all is complete and I've got a crankin system! Cheers for all the help guys. Will have to give some of the QLD boys a demo when I get my ass along to a cruise.
