does anyone know the size of the sump plug on a 98 TF?? i wanna get a socket that size cause all i got is an adjustable spanner and dont want to round off the head on the bolt. Also should i change the sump plug gasket when changing the oil?

Cheers

Do a search next time will ya?:doubt:

sump nut size (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18279&highlight=sump+size)

Is 24mm but if some other service shop sometimes mess around with it, it may not be the original. Cost only less than $2.00 for a new one from dealers with the o-ring.

cheers!

Well I can say with confidence 15/16 doesnt fit on my TF, I tried it the other day....resulting in skinned knuckles and a slightly rounded plug.

Ok well i tried the 24mm and it fitted, now cant get it undone, its like really tight and when i try to get it off its starting to round off the corners, any ideas?

Hmmmmmm - hate to state the obvious, but are you turning it the right way? I'm not calling you an idiot - just that there's no reason for a sump plug to be that tight.

Suppose you've read about my wheel nut dramas........

INCH / DECIMAL / MILLIMETRE CONVERSION

15/16 0.937 23.80

i said it fits nicly not perfect if its that tight some one has over tightened it or glued it
they have a o ring seal thats enough to seal it without over tightning

Yeah he's right..... damn ultra tune tightned it way too much, took two of us yanking on it to get it undone.

Hey magnus, any idea why the belt running the a/c and alternator would "jump off" the runs?
Was replaced in september when timing and pwr steering pump belts were also done, no probs till now then before pwr steer went real heavy and then came back like normal, after 2-3mins charging light on the dash came on, 5 mins later, when i got home, checked it and the belt in question was off the pullies.

Cheers

this happened to me about 2 months ago, i tried everything and it wouldn't budge..i thought i was turning it the wrong way too.
took it down to the local caltex servo, asked the mechanic to get it up on the hoist, 2 seconds with the right spanner, it was out. easy as pie!!!, all it cost me was $5 to cover the use of the hoist!!...
give that a go, may save you a lot of muscle strain!!!! hahahah

easy way to rember which way to un do a nut or bolt

lefty loosy righty tighty

if the belt was loose it may jump off
belts tend to strech after few 1000km when new they should be rechecked after a week or 2:P

As much you are already going through so much trouble make sure you get new bolts and o-ring from dealer. Had the same problem when I first got my car, some idot over thighten the nut. Even when I service aircraft the nuts are never that tight.
