Hey guys,
Hope you all had a good christmas. Ahh i was just wondering, atm i am driving my mums car around and i was wondering if i could put a sub and a amp in there just till i get my own car. I am pretty sure of the answer i will get but here goes. The car only has a stock tape player in it and what i do is using a car kit i hook up my ipod and listen o my music that way but i am not sure i can even hook up a sub and a amp to a tape player...
so to re-instate my question. Can i put a sub and amp in my car even though i am not using a whiz bang :P HU
thanks

nope, dont think you can!
you really have to take it out and see if it has 1 set of pre outs....
but i doubt that would have it, hey ya never know though we used to have an amp connected up to our deck but that was 12 years ago....
hmm.....sorry mate you might have to inspect the deck for yourself

Heres a hot tip, I dunno nuthing about your new fangled wirelesses but if ya gunna do it I'd be real inclined to talk to the owner (MUM) first. :D
This is because from personal experience theres nothing quite like getting into your car, expecting to hear quiet background music and turning the key only to get your ****ing head blown right off by the sons boom box. Makes for very unhappy campers. Trust me. :D :D

Try and get on the Holden forums (e.g. www.streetcommodores.com.au) and ask em if the stock VR deck has a set of pre-outs...
Also remember all the wiring that needs to be done to get the amp up and running.... running RCA's, a big fat power cable from the battery, ground cable, etc...
My suggestion is - keep saving for a better car and stereo to put in that ;)

you will only need small power cable, i wouldnt go all out and get 2ga or anything, just something small for a small setup, small and cheap, and no, sub will disconnect in like 4 seconds no problems at all:D

yeah i used to pull my sub in and out of my old car all the time, to fit the golf clubs and stuff in ;)
If you're keen enough to run wiring, and a power cable thru the firewall, then do it... get a cheapy wiring set from Jaycar (click here (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA0440&CATID=24&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=619))... then as long as you've got the amp, sub and a box, and some time on your hands, then you're set.... so long as the deck has pre-outs, of course

Ahh bugger... was prolly one of the admin dudes
You could try and convince mum into spending ~$150 for a new CD player with preouts ;) or even buy one yourself, install it til you get your own car, then just rip the sub, amp and deck out of the VR and return it to stock ;)

Yes it is Possible, you get a 8 inch Bass Tube and Connect it up to one Positive of the Rear Speaker and One Negative speaker then it connects to the Cigarette power out put

There was a Bass Tube made, I think it may have been Fly Audio or something that was made that Could be wired by High Inputs and a Cigarette Lighter socket...It was Dodgey and Didnt Go very loud but a Bass Tube is your Safest option..
All you need is a Bass Tube like this one...

If you really dont want to upgrade headunits you could unplug the rear speakers and use an amp with high level inputs to run a sub , or use a line converter to convert the speaker outs into rca outs. Then go into a sub.
But for what it's worth, headunits are pretty cheap nowadays. So an upgrade of the headunit even through stock speakers might improve your sound a bit.
Peace

why dont you just save up for a headunit as well, and put that in your mums car for the time being, and when you get your car you will be set?

even basic headunit's (CD) u can find for UNDER $100 these days... hell my mate even bought a cheapie from Aldi (I know as I installed it for him and it looked and worked fine - was only for his oldman, so did the job!) for $100 - it was Aldi's brand (Tevion) but even plays MP3
.... it is up to you in the end, but you could always consider that as a bare minimum.... I am sure I even seen a deck (no mp3) on sale either Sanyo or strathfield brand (soundstorm lol!) for about $70-80....can't beat that for cd player... u could always buy it now and leave in mum's car and when u get ur own car, buy a decent one....
goodluck!

I dont see MP3 essential, but its what the future is leaning towards, so try and source one if you think your going to have it for a few years.
i just dont see myself listning to 230 songs on one cd (rough estimate :P)......on long trips might be better though....
hmm.......but if you dont see yourself in that 4 hour long road trip cenario very often....just grab a cd player with a few pre-outs

i think u can run amps using speaker wires not sure about the quality of it though. I got a 4 channel amp the other day but only have 1 set of output plugs. is there an adapter that can split this into 2 sets or should i run my better speakers of the output plugs and my crappier ones off the speaker wires.
