I bought some speakers from autobarn and went to install them and they had a crack in them like someone had put a screw driver through them. Went to take them back saying these were damage like someone had returned them before and they told me they dont exchange car audio under any circumstances. then told me i should send them bak to the manufacturers but theyll most likely say i did the damage myself.

i was wonder if people had returned stuff before or not coz i swear it looked liked it had been returned before when i opened the box.

by law they (and all other businesses) must exchange or refund merchandise if the merchandise is not of merchantable quality ie is not up to scratch. I would go back again, mention this to them and politely suggest that, should they not refund or exchange, you will be contacting the office of consumer and business affairs.

Yup Harsh os right, they must exchange a faulty item, Just them what harsh said and they usually would just exchange right there and then. If not contact your local fair trading office they will happi;y follow it up for you.

Sorry, but they dont have to do jack. Check your warrenty card that came with your speakers...

the only time they have to replace a faulty item is if it comes with a replament warrenty. some items have a 7 day replacment, some have a 14 day replacment, and some have no replacment warrenty.

If you call the Manufacturer they will organise a swap over for you where you will either have to take the speakers to a local service agent and have them inspect it for warrenty, or they will organise to have some couriored to you and the courior will take away the old ones.

Just out of interst, what brand were the speakers? cause this would mostly happen with cheaper brands....

....

it is the court that decides what a suitable 'warranty' is for an item. The manufacturer can attempt to place a specific time restriction on the item, but if a court deems the warranty unsuitable for a type of product, it can order the item to be replaced or fixed. An example would be a car manuacturer placing a 3 day warranty on a new vehicle - it would not hold up under the principles of equity in court.

I'm gonna start charging for this advice... :)

they were clarion ones for like 80 buks had a gift voucher so not to fussed about the money ($80). i dont think the speakers were made dodge it looks like someone has bought them b4 me and taken them bak after they have put a hole in em and they have just chucked them bak on the shelf without checking them out.

I know if i sent them bak to clarion theyd say that id done it myself. i was just wondering if autobarn needs to have a sign next to the speakers saying no returns. there is nothing on the website and they didnt say n e thing when i bought them about refunds.

i just picked up the box and bought em. If they are so tight on refunds dont they need to make you aware of this. So u go through and check everything is in the box and in good order. At least you would think they would go through the contents with you at the counter. Cd shops check they arnt scratched and surf shops tell you bathers are non-refundable.

Horse poo.
They have to take it back. I happen to work in retail and it is the law. The only exceptions are copyrighted goods like DVDs and games, not speakers.
We see a lot of 'customers' abuse this right, and that's probably why the staff there didn't want to take it back, but they do have to. If they don't, make an official complaint.

yeh i would either go back and ask for the manager or some one higher up or go to there other store (if they have another one in your state) and tell them the issue and see what they have to say
and if they continue to be asses simply go to consumer affairs

My bro bought a Lightning Audio Strike sub from an Autobarn last year and the guy told him he could return it if he didn't want it. We ended up keeping it but there was no problem with exchanging it.

They should take it even if not to replace, to send off for you for warranty purposes. GOod luck though..
