I noticed last night while i was driving around town that the rear of my TJ is making a pulsing hissing sound, kinda like the rear break pads are rubing. Does it have self adjusting rear breaks(handbreak) that may be sticking causing the pads to not fully dis-engage? Also the rear tyres are wearing only on the edges. I think that this may be due to me having to drive up and down the Julatten Range everyday to get to and from work, but is there something else that may cause this?

apparently its a handbrake issue, I had to get mine adjusted as was getting a consistent rubbing sound from rear end. apparently is pretty common.

At SLOW speeds, like 5k/hr try pulling the handbrake on/off quickly. If that fixes it you know where your problem is.

If your tyres are wearing on both outside edges of each rear tyre your pressure is probably too low. If its only wearing on one edge of each rear tyre you've got sum suspension issues that need checking. :D

Dunno nuttin bout TJ rear brakes so I wont comment on them, Harsh seems to know his stuff so I'd go with that. :D

The shwish, swish noise from the rear is a common problem. The dealers fit handbrake shoes made of a different compound which fixes it.

a mits mechanic also told me a slight surface rust build up can occur in the handbrake area. as DRIVER mention drive slowly with the handbrake on, but also swerve on the road a little as well.
