View Full Version : Help Needed: ICE Finalization
Hey guys,
firstly i'd like to say thankyou in advance for any help. Im in the process of finalising my ice setup...
After all my issues with my subs and finding out it was the deck ... Sub Issues Thread (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21205) ...
So i went and bought a new deck and took the plunge to do everything at once before motorvation my current setup is as follows
Deck: JVC KD-DV5100 (http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/docs/20050805/vic2_2.jpg)
Monitor: JVC KV-M705 (http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/docs/20050805/vic2_2.jpg)
Front Stage: Kicker KS6.2 (http://www.djelectronicshq.com/images/products/med/Kicker-6-12034-Speakers-KS62-2387.jpg)
Rear Fill: Pioneer TSA6960E (http://www.strathfield.com.au/images/SimpleProducts/large/TSA6960E.jpg) -Low end Pioneer 6x9's not too be amped
Subs: 2x 12" Pioneer TSW305C (http://www.strathfield.com.au/images/SimpleProducts/large/305CDOUB.jpg)
Amp: Boss 5 Channel 1200watt max - definately the low point of the setup at this stage
Ok From this i want to run an inverter to power a ps2 and on show's and cruise's a 17 monitor mounted in the boot while i am at it i am going to buy a couple of low end speaker packs to setup in the lining of the boot so that when we're playing DDR out the back of the car we can have some sound rather than just bass rofl.
thoughts... will i be right running the invertor staright from the battery as well as running the amp already... OR.. im i better off looking at a distribution block.. at the moment the amp is running on a 8 gauge power (no issues as of yet).. also if the LCD is rated at ~ 40 watts consumption and the PS2 is rated at 50 watts what sort of power rating should the inverter be?
OSO, how much battery life will this give me if i leave the car off...?
Thanks again!
Justin
heres a really dodge chop of how i want the boot to look :)

If your just running a ps2 of the invertor you can plug it up to the ciggi lighter.
I can run my ps2 with amps/subs/splits/etc for about an hour and my engine still starts fine with no probs.
Also if you are running a slimline this might be a better alternative
from ebay located in the UK CLICKY (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/PS2-Car-Power-12V-DC-adapter-adaptor-SONY-Slimline-NEW_W0QQitemZ8245371186QQcategoryZ11319QQssPageNam eZWD2VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
i dont really have any advice on the power issue...
you are doing exactly what i was in the process of doing though. My suggestion would be to actually mount the monitor on the boot lid... so that when the boot is fully open it will be in the direct line of sight for people standing around looking at your boot install. I did think of putting the monitor in the boot like you... however i think it would make it look too cluttered with the 17" (same size as mine).
for your invertor i would get a 150w max power. I think it will be a 100w - 150w MAX invertor. Which means it runs at 100w, however can run at 150w for short bursts.
make sure you have an in-line switch on the invertor too... or something... so that when you start the car it doesnt send a power spike (or surge whatever it is) through to your monitor and PS2. thats what i was going to do.
if any of that made sense. good luck man. keep us posted.

EDIT
turns out i did have advise on the power issue. :D
unfortunately i dont have a slimline =/
im looking at getting this inverter
Jaycar Inverter (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=MI5104&CATID=8&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=680)
it has a switch on the box so i'd keep it turned off anyway until i wanted to utilize the ps2 and monitor.
Rod.. i agree i wanted to go with the boot lid thing.. i was just trying to visualise how to mount it etc... thinking about it now it would probably be in the form of an MDF setup mounted to boot lid... the thing i liked about the centre feature is i could remove it completely if i needed to...
so many ideas and ways to do things rofl..
yeah that invertor will be good. it leaves room for expansion if need be. Can you run duel monitors from a PS2 or whatever you are running it from?
yeah the boot lid will require MDF... from one hinge to the other... and the monitor mounted on that MDF. You could also set up some quick release thing for the monitor there too. its better to go to a little bit of extra effort than have something that looks a bit bodge.
go the boot lid for sure.. then show me how you did it ... lol :P
lol gazza did a mdf frame for his but just unsure how to mount it now... might require brackets drilled in
setup will look sortal like this

Yeh still unsure how to mount the board to it. It is easy to screw it to the boot lid, bu if its covered in vinyal, there will be screw holes in it!!!
Will have to do some hard thinking today about it.... Keep you all posted

justin u bought the screen for the ps2 yet? might wanna look at a widescreen instead, would be better for movies, dunno how many ps2 games r widescreen but woulda thought theres a fair few...
also thought of going straight s-video from ps2 to boot monitor? or component? gonna give ya alot better picture than composite (the usual yellow/red/white plugs) and would present better when showing off :P unless ur going a cheap screen i guess...

Ok, boot board is in my car. Looks good, it is held in but simply 2 screws in the center of ther boot, top , bottom, with white push on caps covering the screw tops. As the boot is rounded, it is pushing the 2 sides into the boot, giving it a tight lock. May sound a bit weird, but it sits there nicely, with no probs, But justins install is looking heaps better, as he has cut his mdf out to the full outline of the boot, where I have just done a basic rectangle, with little cutouts down the sides for the boot hinges.
I will post pics when i can, but the ofice computer is down, so i can't upload photos from the camara to it. Will attempt a revival of the pc this arvo.
Anyways
heres first release :)
few thigns that need tidying up but u get the idea :)
Cheers!

It looks good, any chance of changing the subs? :)
I love installations that are simple and clean like yours, they're always better than the over-the-top installations.
yeah subs will def change eventually.. lol... they are boot fillers atm... and not very useful hehe :)
good enough to get me started tho lol...
monitor is on quick release so i can take it out piece of cake... the boot still gives me space to lay down some plastic and put **** in it.. thats the main thing ;)

Yeah make sure you mount the screen properly, wouldn't want it to brake :)
