ok i have a leak but i cant find it.........

when i put my foot down to accelerate it makes a noise like im letting nos out of a bottle, like a gas bottle ect ect... i have SFA power compared to usual
its running nice n rich, i can see all the smoke coming out the back when i give it some stick

prob is, wen i park it and rev it to go see where the leak is coming from i get nothing. only happens when im actually driving

Im with magnus, your air filter mite be blocked but I assume you checked that already.
You could try driving a short distance without it ( if it runs). It mite also be the air intake tubing is collapsing. Is it firm or has it gone all soft. You pick the tricky ones Meh   :)

well it idle's fine cruises fine but as soon as i give it some stick its done for haha

y would it be the filter getting blocked out ???
and the intake tubing is nice n hard still

run the diagnostic test with the check engine light to see if any codes come up, maybe something like your airflow meter is gone

If the air flow rate is below the minimum mappable level of fuel flow you end up with an excessively rich mixture, lack of power and black smoke.

At lower throttle inputs it isnt a problem because the computer can adjust for the lack of air flow.

If it had been white smoke I would have said manifold leak causing excessively lean mix.

The hissing sound may be the engine sucking hard for air through a small gap somewhere. The question is where the hell is the restriction. ( assuming thats the problem).

I said it b4 and I'll say it again, you really do get the tricky ones doncha :D

Maybe there is something obvious i'm missing here. Anybody else got a thought. perhaps airflow sensor or computer :)

Would it possibly have anything to do with the removal of the haltech? maybe they put something back together incorrectly? I guess thats pointing out the obvious, but ya never know  lol

possibly an oxygen sensor?

had a similar prob on an au falcon about 12 months ago. dont know if the magnas and falcons are similar or not.... check the codes if you can

welcome to my intermittant problem let me describe mine:

idle - 2800-3000 rpm fine under normal driving conditions, start booting it from 3000 and up u get the suck sound but the car doesnt pull like it should, days when u dont get the suck or hiss sound the car F(&^in flys yes its a 1st gen, didnt think the cai pipe maybe colapsing ill remove that and check it today i was about to put the timing back to stock spec thinking it may have been pinging or somthing

cheers for the ideas pete

Well although i have a 6g72 12v, mine makes a similar noise, but only when its labouring, like if say im doing 2,500rpm, and i put flat to the floor, it sounds like a gos bottle being emptied until about 3,500rpm

i got this prob about two weeks now u just beat me to it blake. was bout to ask this question. i thought coz i hav'nt been floggin the car for a while since the missus had the mazda bubble. n e wayz ive ignored it thought it might go away if i drive it a while. but today it startin to slip gears now and if i go tippy lowering gears is a bit late reaction or a longer lag than usual and vice versa  :headbange.....wat could this be :doubt:
