has anyone replaced their shock absorbers with aftermarket ones? called up one shop today and they quoted me $600 to replace all four shocks with monroe GT gas. think that's a good price?
and if anyone has upgraded their shocks, could you please describe the improvements, if any? thanks! :D

I've been quoted Konis for that price...I'd get them instead.

I got mine reconditioned at
http://www.shockreco.com.au/
I think it is about $80 / corner...
But for that they will shorten the shock to suit the lowered springs.... (you would need to get some of these if you didnt already have theml :) $200 approx)
Tell them Haydn Sent you..... (might get you and ME a better prince in the future :D )

Haven't heard much good news about Monroes in terms of longetivity; most people feel they lose a lot of their control after around 30-40,000kms if you get a good set that don't spring a leak. I bought KONI reds at about $600 for the set and $250 for fitting (quite a task). They made a HUGE difference to the driving of the car, but then again Monroes will too if you shocks are completely shot.

It is dependent on how long you intend to keep your car, otherwise having to replace the Monroes afer 18-24 months you end up paying more overall when the KONIs will give you better ride quality for longer period of time.

Re King springs, I bought Whiteline springs which were $300 for 4 springs, and local suspension shop installed them for $90. (Suspension City, North Melbourne). See Damien there they are excellent and if you rock up early you get two guys working on your car at once; they put my springs in in record time of 30mins, it was like a pitstop

thanks dude. will keep in mind that. but as i said, my shocks are working just fine. so if changing them to monroe's or koni's don't do much as compared to the perfect condition stock setup, i will save the dough and spend it somewhere else :D

I used Monroe GTs in an other car (how dare I!!!) which was very front heavy. I changed fronts every 30 k or so, to maintain the best performance.
They were good value for the money - but as said, not the best.

If you can get Koni gas for the same or similar money, go for it.

I love knowing the owner of a suspension joint.

He told me koni gas adjustables (yellow ones) and 2" lowered King springs all round for 6-700 bucks.
