Hey peoples just wondering if any one else has got or had this problem??
Iv tryed doing a search but nothing came up
I drive a TH AlteraLS and noticed that my brakes do funny things for a start when im in the car park with my windows down i can hear this swooshing sound comming from my car the sound rebounds off the parked cars.? thik its comming from the back????
Next when i go to wash my car, clean the rims dry the car off then drive home when i go to use the brakes they make this god awfull sound like they are grinding metal to metal or some thing and then when the car stops its kinda rough???
Last of all, i do alot of stop start driving on the week ends cos im in Real Estate and have to put out or pick up my for sale signs and at times after iv use the hand brake a few times there is a loud squeel that comes form the back which lasts about 100m or so????
Im lost!!!!!
im pretty sure the pads are still fine as i had them cheeked not too long ago???????

You might have a problem with the handbrake or you may have had a brake pad separate. When it comes to brakes get a pro to check em as its ya life ya gambling with.
If you're in real estate you should have a pretty good bull**** detector built in, so if you are sus on what the brake guy says try another. :D

Sounds like brake dust drying onto your discs.
I spray down the wheels/dics with water extremely well, then drive around the block to
dry the brakes.

I used to use this wheel cleaner spray thingie, and after each use of it the brakes sound real messy until it drys of or something. But it never happens if iDONT use that spray on wheels.

i had the exact same problem too!!!! and i had warped/glazed rotors.
i fixed that with DBA longlife rotors and bendix advanced brake pads.... all previous sounds and problems soon left.

hey guys thanks for your input.
sounds like its pretty expensive to fix if it is that??
The grinding noise after washing is normal. Just do not go too fast straight away, apply the
brakes gently to remove any grit and water first.

I have a similar issue with my KJ - the service manager at my local dealer says it is a normal "fault" in the design of the braking system....mine only does it under hard braking or if im towing a loaded trailer - he claims there is a spray on stuff you can put on them which softens the pads a little.....which obviously shortens the life of the pads....your best bet to get rid of it is to ditch the crappy stock rotor and pads with something of decent quality - these third gens have a hell of alot of "inherent faults" that Mitsu never bothered to even try and fix.......

well DBA longlife rotors set me back about $55 each rotor ( x 4 )... altho thats cost price, they retail for $115 each for front/$105 each for rear. Bendix advance brake pads are $68 per end, i paid $35 per end cost price.
all from repco :) my mate did it all for a carton so im cheering.

You can get RDA rotors also. I got the slotted version at front and rear, with some RDA basic disc pads. Its so much better than the mitsi stuff. Rotors cost about the same as the DBA ones, but the disc pads were under $30 a pair

Does anyone else's 3rd gen do a tummy grumble after you have pulled on the handbrake after stopping on an upwards incline?
Mine does it in the driveway. I park, pull up the handy and the car rolls back just a tad while making a 'ggrrrrrrrrrpppp' sound.

Yup, :D oth the third gens ive had have done that - but come to think of it - so did my old TP, and the sh**box i had before that, and then one before that, and even my old 74 torana i had as a first car ..well, did it as well.. lol ..i beleive its just a characteistic of how weigt and braking systems work as the load goes onto the pads, they "bed in" to the disks, only really slight movement, but due to the pressure on the disks...lalala, on the story goes....pain in the arse i know, but i wouldnt be surprised if someone in the know on here might be able to point you in the right direction on how to take care of it!!.....im babbling again......best stop there i think! :gtfo:
