hey jsut wondering, cos i can get a lukey high flow muffler put on for 190$ or i can put on a high-flow lukey muffler with a 2 1/4 cat-back exhaust for $320, whats the better choice, the guy said if i just put the muffler on for $190 it will still have the resonator on it, will this make a diff?

Only a difference in noise, it'll be louder without the resonator.
Also your stock piping is 2 1/4" so it'd be of no benefit unless that is madrel bent, but I'd go 2.5 if yours is a V6.
You can always upgrade the piping later if you want to.

I think the weld on one is cheaper.
He may have had a quote for a LR2779

They did? I couldn't imagine why.
Oh I think the bolt on is shorter..
That could change the note maybe? I dunno...sounds possible.
I wouldn't worry too much though, they're both nice mufflers

If the weld on is the same unit as the one found on the VR-X and Sports, I know why they sound different. Mine is the bolt on and it's probably a half to two thirds the length. Incedently, I picked it up for $150, no tip and I installed it.

i perchased a second hand sports muffler
the sports from a v6 3.5L verada
and slaped it onto my 2.4 4cyld magna
WITH NOTICABLE GAINS in the mid/HIGh end!! veery nice..

Well the 4cyls aren't exactly my forte but I think it'd be safe to say they have a 2.25" system as well.
I'd just confer with Dave@RPW first before getting a bigger exhaust.
I think the TR/TS model exhausts are press bends too, if they are then it could be worth the money to get a mandrel bent one.
I came home today, I had no people to see, no where to go....I was bored....what did I do? I got some calipers out and measured my exhaust diameter.
I have no life.
My TH Verada (3.5L):
Twin tips: 45mm each
Inlet to muffler: 63mm (2.5")
90 degree bend just before rear wheels (piping runs from muffler, up over rear wheel, then down the other side, then parallel to side for a few cms, then bends 90 degrees back into the centreline of the car. It was this that was measured: 58mm (2.3")
Straight pipe from bend to centreline: 60mm (2.4").
Along the centreline was a resonator, a (large) cat, then a (large) bit of flex, from what I could tell.
My forsale TR Elite (2.4):
Twin tips: 40mm each
Inlet to muffler: 50mm (2")
Straight section leading to the centreline: 53mm (2")
Old Mans TS Exec (3.0L):
Twin tips: 43mm each
Inlet to muffler: 53mm (2")
90 degree bend to centreline: 49mm
Straight section leading to the centreline: 53mm (2")
There was what appeared to be an expansion chamber just in front of the rear wheel between the 90 degree bend to the centreline and where it bends up over the real wheel.
Looking at my measurements i may have an error of +/- 2mm. And of course all measurements are out the outside diameter of the piping.
HOWEVER, the bends are definately smaller than the striaight sections. Its very hard to tell (especially for the TH) because there is very little piping that is uniform in diameter. But may this still be the case for mandrel bend stuff? I wouldve thought press bends wouldve been a lot smaller (by say 5mm+), but mandrel shouldve kept a constant diameter?
The LR2779 has a 2 3/8" inlet, which is a shade under 60mm. Thats a very wierd inlet size (usually either 2 1/4" or 2 1/2"), but would mate perfectly to the 3.5 piping.
The saga for a stainless straight through muffler for my TH continues. Everyone wants to put a 2 1/4" inlet muffler on it....would I be right in thinking that I want a straight through muffler with piping the same size or bigger than the exhaust piping?

Hmm interesting, could you see a definite dip on the inner side of the corners in the piping? If I recall correctly, press bent piping will have that as that's a characteristic of how they are bent.
Mandrel bends do lose a little diametre on the bends but not much, so I guess a -2mm sounds about right.

Don't let them. I have the impression that the piping only flows as good as it's narrowest point but I don't know if this is true in exhausts - possibly. That being the case, there's no point in making the muffler the smallest point. Just get the bolt on or weld on Lukey and instead of spending 300 bucks on new piping for a minimal gain, use it elsewhere.
