Seems you need to kick off again and look at this logically. #1 ... Why did you think it was bad fuel?

Battery is a common cause of this problem. :)

Manual or Auto?
Theres usually only 2 things it can be that stop a car from starting, either its fuel or spark. Therefore changing the oil and oil filter won't do much to help a car to start, though it is important that the car has oil in it before you try and start it.

What is the car doing? Is it cranking over but not firing? Is it not cranking over at all? Without any of this all we can do is guess, though the check engine light does give some possible indications.

I second that.

Does the car sound like it wants to turn over with the key?

Id say battery!

Ok i'll try to explain this best i can.

If u turn the key and it goes *click* over and over again, its probably not the starter motor, but the distributor, spark plugs, leads, might even be the timing if the engines been fiddled with lately.
If u turn the key and there is no sound then it could be a number of things (i'd say its the starter) it could be the starter, battery, spark plugs, distributor (might be ****ed up inside so that it is non conductive, very rare problem, only seen it once.). (my friend had a problem like this and i came and took a look, he just put in a cd then it wouldnt start, i popped the hood and reconnected the battery and it worked, it could be the simplest thing). Another friend couldnt get home from school cos it wouldnt start, he thought it was the immobilser or something but it was his starter motor
Good luck fixing it.:)

Is your battery 2years old or more? if so, change your battery. Are you part of the NRMA? If so, call them out and make them check! thats why you pay your membership! and if your not part of the nrma, why not? its only like $50 a year and a great help in situations like this... it will cost you more for an auto electrition just to think about comming out to check it....
