View Full Version : Help: Rewiring front speakers

Alrighty. After reading several threads about re-wiring the front speakers I decided to attempt this anyway.
I've got eh passenger side door done. No worries here. A little fiddly but not too bad.
Problem. Drivers side. Looking up through the foot well there's the fuse box and the like. It's chockers with stuff. I've shon my torch through the wiring port in the door and I can't see even a glimer of light.
For you guys who've successfully re-wired, do you have any tricks for getting ht ewire through the drivers side.
For what it's worth, I bought a nice new shiney 4 channel amp.
I'm rigging it to power the fronts and bridged for my sub when I get around to purchasing it. ONe chrissy pressy at a time.
It's nice thick speaker cable capable of 150W. This is heaps since the speakers in the doors are fujitsu eclipse, 3-way 6.5" - 70W PMPO, 40W RMS.
The sub delivers 180W per channel PMPO - 80Wx4 RMS
Anyway, I'd appreciate any tips in finding my way through the drivers door.
You may ask why I'm rewiring? Coz Im on annual leave? Coz I can? I dunno, I was more concerned about the fact that whilst everything is out I may as well do that too.
Cheers
Dave
BTW - Power cable was easy (8 Guage) - just poked it through a hole that my CB aerial goes through. It may be cheating, but what the hell ... it only took me 5 minutes to lay my power cable. I'm not complaining lol

i used a plastic strip ... kinda like a big needle ... point on one end and a hole on the other to loop the speaker wire through ... i found it easier to pull the 2 ends of of the rubber between the door and car and spray it with WD40 ... lots of spray and it made it easier to feed it through
all up about 10 minutes ... maybe less ... i think i used 16guage speaker wire

Yeah going through the rubber isn't the problem. Nice trick though. I just did a bit of cursing and it worked for me!
But trying to go through the panel in to the foot well ... I poked a metal coathanger through and I think it went in to the footwell but I can't see it to confirm. It's a jumbled mess of cables in there.

Let me get this straight. You want to replace the old speaker wire with new speaker wire? If so just tie the end of the old wire and end of the new wire and pull it through from the head unit. I cant see why that wouldn't work?

that wont work cause there's a big plastic plug inside the rubber sleeve that does'nt allow you to pull it through
If ur talking about changing the wires from going to the dash speakers so that u have wire to the door, it has never been that hard for me. So far i had to put in my head unit and central locking and it all feeds through the foot well. I suggest if ur having a problem try taking ur head unit out (not all the way and try to move ur hand slowly thru the hole towards the drivers foot well (this can be less painful if u remove the driver seat, otherwise u might get a sore back from awkward positions.
Hope this helps u :)

Disconnect the Neg. Batt. Terminal, and unscrew the fuse box from it's mounting point.
1 (maybe 2) Philips head screws. :D

OK I got it. Thanks for the replies. I used a jedi mind trick lol
I got a piece of coat hanger wire (nice and straight), made a loop on the end. Then I climbed in to the foot well, reached around to the outside of the car to where the wires exit the chasis, then closed my eyes, poked the coat hanger in the general direction of my hand and imagined my fingers meeting. And voila, I skewered my hand!! Result, one bloodied hand now covered by a band aid and wires through to the door.
Now I have to go and buy an allan key set so I can hook up all the wires. 30 minutes away from success (knowing my luck with doing anything, something will have gone wrong now that I've put my interior back together).
Enjoy your days peeps.
I'll tell u wat, something will probably go wrong, today i just wired up my centre brake light with LED's and the were all working (i had to plan up the wiring diagram resistors and LED's :D) after i put them in my car i took a look at them wen i got my bro to put his foot on the brake and they all worked but 2!! After some cursing , blaming my brother for putting his foot on wrong (just venting at him), I decided to take it out and i found that i melted 2 diodes with the soldiering iron as i put it togther. And now i cant get replacement pieces till tomorow or wednesday, stupid bloody public holidays.
O well it still looks cool.
And if ppl every need help with the centre brake light and LED's i can help.;)
But well watch out something is gonna go wrong, its the time of year...

sounds nifty mate you should post up a little tutorial etc when you get it working :)
i will, but first i got to figure out how to keep the LED's secure, they sit fine but theres always a chance it could go lopped sided. ppl watching the brake might think i'm an idiot . But i'll post up a tutorial and hopefully some pics (need camera first).
But anyway i'll stop hijacking this thread. :D
Preacher man, have u wired up anything to ur boot yet for a sound system, im interested in ppl's set up as i'm going full pioneer and slowly working up affording those expensive ****s. lol
I need ideas on wat to do (new ideas) I think i'll get someone else to impale their finger wen im going to do this, i dont like pain.

Bah to pain. Pain is wiggling wires for half an hour and making no progress. Skewered finger is from not looking ;-)
This is my first install. Probably not the best person to speak to either. I've just put in a boss 4 chanel amp. It may not be even middle of the road but it's made such a huge improvement.
Everything worked by the way. It's all good.
1) Sound is heaps clearer
2) Better back fill
3) Greater control
4) Distorts at a far greater volume
It's all good really
$168 for Boss 4 Channel amp, $39for wiring kit + $20 additional RCAs + Additional speaker cable
$11 splitters, $20 Cross Fader
So my system now sits at:
Pioneer 4650MP head unit
6.5" Fujitsu Eclipse 3 Way fronts
6x9" Fujitsu Eclipse 3 Way rears
1" Alpine dome tweeters in dash
Boss BA2910 4 Channel Amp
It's all good

Once i used a Boss amplifier (http://www.caraudioaustralia.com/forums/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=3005)
my sound system kicks ur ass, i got a cheap pioneer deck with a blown stock front speaker and a working front speaker (wats worse is my mum blew it damn that surprised me ).
U c why i'm looking for sound system ideas, i got one working 4" speaker thats so quiet u have to drive with ur head to the dash. At least its drivers side.:P
If it only it wasnt so damn expensive. lol
