well im taking it your car isnt actually idling at 4000 rpm, it just says that.

Does the rest of your cluster work ok? Because we put back together a CE lancer and the connectors in the back of the cluster could be reversed and switched over. Sometimes the odometer wouldnt come on, sometimes the SRS light would be on even though it doest have srs. So we swapped and spun the connectors around for a while 'til it came good.

I assume you took off the needles to get to the guage faces?

When putting the needles back on (tach), the car needs to be at operating temprature and idling.

If in park or nuetral the car will idle hi - anywhere from 1,000 to 1,300 on my Diamante.

In Gear (drive), the car will idle between 750 to 800 on my Diamante.

I warmed up the D to proper temp, put the D in gear (D), and then put on the tach neddle to the proper guage/tach reading. Use very little preasure to get the neddles back on.

Hope this helps

Thats some pretty good lateral thinking there LRuff98163. I didnt even think about if he'd taken the needles off. Wonder if he did. :D

I thought he had! Take the tacho needle off (carefully!!!). Turn the car on, but dont start the engine. Carefully put the needle back on, set at zero. Should fix the problem. It did for me when i had to take my needles off
