I got a set of hi techs for $80 at the wreckers, and a 2" system with no cat and 1 x-flow muffler for $200 fitted. so $280 all up....

now its all going there is NO low end power whatsoever, its really pissing me off.
it kinda rolls in gear then the revs go up really quick then the gears engage and i almost get whiplash,

it picks uip around 3000RPM and changes gears at 4500 to 5000rpm, which is really LOUD and BAD and its gonna **** itself one day....i revved to 6500rpm last night and i crapped meself...

what to do to get power low down???

yeh i found the more ehaust/intake mods i did made me loose alot down low
but i added alot more up top so didnt care just drive with high revs :P
also maybe your carbys lackin or out of tune??????

hhrrmm... i cant really help... but i will be interested to know how to get your bottom end back as i was thinking of running a very similar setup... and because i tow a trailer alot i will need that torque down low :( good luck!

actually come to think of it i gained ALOT of torque down low but lost it up top but reverse for power
i found when towing my other car i was just driving up to 3k as it was all pull didnt need any more

i had the same prob upon getting my exhaust completed, had it tuned and fixed it abit, it sttill doesnt have as much down low as it did, but the tune helped.

i dont know if it would help but if you have a timing light disconnect the vacum advance(remember to plug or clamp the vacum lines u disconnected) get the idle speed to around 800rpm then adjust your timing to 6 or 7 degress BTDC instead of 5 then reconnect it all.

oh if you got them from the wreckers did u check the extractors b4 installing them to make sure there is no blockage etc ?

also it could just be the design of the headers. remember that long primary pipes are good for bottom end torque and short ones are good for high revving. my lukey headers have pretty long pipes, i still have a reasonable amount of bottom end torque even though its 2 1/4 all the way through.

oh crap...
i took it to a gas tuner and he checked it all over
we got it running absolutly smooth as! BUT

now the timing chain is rattling away and even the sound of it annoys me...

me leads were stuffed, and even different diameters! and spark plugs were a bit crapped up
so we replaced the hole lot...

now im gonna plug up the EGR pipe and change the oil to quieten down the rattling

it goes alot different (like frikkin harder) than before, shifting at differeent revs and the xorst is kinda loud and farts on deceleration, sound like a bogan try hard p plater car now!!!

haha yeah i have that problem myself, sometimes i get a bit of old school rally style pops from the exhaust when decelerating or backing off suddenly. if you downchange to second at about 50-60 it sounds wild!
did you get a resonator/hotdog when u had your exhaust done ? a hotdog really helps get rid of the boy racer fartie milo tin noise and improves the overall tone. worth the extra money and you shouldnt get pulled up by the boys in blue then.

if the timing chain sounds bad, try getiing one of those balance shaft deletion kits. not only will it improve throttle response but the shorter chain is less noisy. REPCO sell them right ?

id recommend using the manufacuters spec 20w 50SF grade oil. these engines seem to like thick oil.

on my old engine, i changed to 20w 40 magnatec and a week later the head gasket had blown(probably overheated) : (

HPR50 is thick, 20w50 is considered a light oil still.

oh ok, i always thought that was pretty thick as far as engine oil goes

Ive blown my head gasket, or stuffed the head lol over heated the other day, and being an alloy head, doesnt like it much, so i thought it was the thermostat, so replaced that as it wasnt working but now its still overheating, and blowing back steam out the blow back or what ever its callled what hose connects the air filter to the rocker cover.

Oh btw, invest in a new torque converter, something like a high stall converter, might help your probs out a bit
