View Full Version : Car audio in a first gen........
just wondering how much success you guys are getting running subs in your cars.
i ain't put them in yet but i'm lookin at running 2x10" subs off a 2 chann 480 watt amp.
i know from playing with my 3rd gen that it's hard to get the sound into the cabbin. (outside the car you could hear them fine and whe the same setup was in other cars it was fine, but it just wasn't bery loud in the car itself). i'm currently running a 15" in the boot of the 3rd gen now and the sound travels much easier then the tens (oh... i forgot to mention i was previously running 4x10" in the 3'rd, now running 1x15")
what i want to know is if you guys have the same deal with the 1'st. i'm gonna be running this setup anyway as i won't have time to change it (QMD dB sound off this weekend and i don't even have the wiring in yet). but i might look at changing it later and just lookin for your exp.
thanx Jonathan

My 12" in my first gen pounds pretty hard. That's with the sub facing towards the cabin, but a new sub going in on Monday with the sub facing towards the tail-lights. Keep in mind though I've spent about $350 on sound-deadening.

ive spend nothing on sound deadening, i did the **** house wiring and i have 2 6x9's in the rear and 2x12" in a single box facing rearwards and inside the car it sounds awsome but outside cant hear much except rattle, but it only matters in the car and its fine

Heh, weird, because I had no sound-deadening originally, and half the time all I heard was tinny sounds coming from the bootlid. Fixed that up and heard another 10,000 locations, sound-deadened all them and I still hear small areas in the car which aren't the smooth bass sound that I want.

ive got 2x6inch 200w speakers stuffed into the front doors(barely clears the window tracks and arm rests) powered by the 200w head unit.
2x6inch 200w's on the rear parcel shelf powered by a 400w amp
a 12inch enclosed sub powered by a 200w amp facing rearwards. all hooked up with my own dodgy wiring.
sounds pretty nice but if u crank the bass up too much the sub rattles the bootlid and number plate which u dont really hear inside. if you turn it up too loud the rears start to vibrate the rear parcel shelf and it sounds bad :doubt:
oh and im using no sound deadening at all, but i will probably use somthing on the inside of the bootlid. also maybe i should make a thicker rear parcel shelf ?

Yeah, you should. Once you make the rear-parcel shelf, can you send me the template? :) I need to do the same heheh
